Replying to you, SGman as well as this quote from David:
“Operation Warp Speed may be Trump’s most important and beneficial legacy, but he seldom gets credit for it from either side. The conspiracy right wants to forget Trump’s role in vaccine development, and the left wants to forget anything positive about Trump.”
I can sort of understand giving Trump some amount of credit here, for various reasons—not least of which is that it kind of feels like a backhanded compliment. :)
That said, I’ve never felt like he deserved any real credit. Sure, the president had the prerogative to approve or reject this fast-track approach… but does his credit extend anything beyond “not getting too much in the way?” And I say “too much” because he very much got in the way of the government’s response to the pandemic. The experts in the room constantly had to tiptoe around his worse instincts, humor his insatiable pathologies, and just generally treat the leader of the free world with kid gloves when he said and did boneheaded things. And he still did plenty to encourage people to believe utter nonsense, lose trust in the experts who had our best interests at heart, and inflame divisions.
Giving him credit feels to me to be a slap in the face to all the doctors and scientists and clinical trial subjects who made real efforts and sacrifices to get us these vaccines.
To clarify -- I didn't mean to say that you and David are "slapping" those in the face or anything negative toward you two. Just one of the things that holds me back from giving any credit. Good day!
I did the flu/covid jabs in September. I am homeschooling my grandson but my granddaughter still attends a germ factory, aka brick and mortar school. Up next are pneumonia and RSV shots. I do it for them. And I do it for my husband who had a quadruple bypass in March. We managed to avoid covid until August of 2023 when my mom passed. It wasn’t fun, but we have no lasting effects. Thanks for doing your part David.
I joined a Facebook group dedicated to the incorporation of my area. A few days ago, the page moderator posted a long post about how the Covid vaccine gave her a bunch of mysterious auto immune symptoms and warning everyone against getting it. And now I'm sorry I ever supported the incorporation effort because the driving force behind it is obviously a Trumpist lunatic.
I had my semi annual checkup a few weeks ago. Got the flu shot, the pneumonia shot, and a Covid booster (bringing my total of Covid vaccines to 5? 6? I've lost count. But after almost dying from it, they can jab me every week.) And I double checked to make sure I had received both doses of shingles vaccine. I knew I'd had the first but couldn't remember if I got the second.
I've had a lot of radiation safety training. Quite often the various radiation dosages were compared to that of a cross-country flight. Not being a pilot and as someone who will drive several days to avoid flying, it never occurred to me that it could be an occupational cancer risk. I'm glad your treatment was successful.
Warpspeed is one of - or perhaps the only - thing for which I speak of Trump positively.

By all means, only credit to that which he is due.

Yeah, pilots - or those that travel a lot for work - get a lot more accumulated dose than one might expect.
Thanks , Curtis.
The Covid shot won't be a tradition in our house.
I would have been surprised (albeit pleasantly) by any other response.
