Immutable characteristics are not inherently political. I've seen many call Robinson a leftist because he is allegedly gay/bi, but that ignores the reality of LGBT Republicans existing (and they do exist).
The thing that is political is our treatment of groups of immutable characteristics - with some wishing to deny/rescind their rights and others trying to protect/restore. And this is not inherently a left/right issue, at least not as things should be in the American system (though it does seem to devolve to it....)
There is no government authority to shut down free speech just because Trump doesn’t like what someone said!
