"It was jarring, not because I lost my gig, but because up to that point, I thought punishment for failure to show fealty to a political figure was something that happened in other nations, with reputations for oppressive, despotic governments. It couldn’t happen here!"
For what it's worth, I know the Salem Media outlet you're referencing, and I'm reading a lot more of you here than I'm reading of any of their stuff there.
Data point of one, but don't for a minute believe that there are folks out here in the aether who don't appreciate your commitment to your principles instead of selling out to someone who compromises each and every one of those.
Amen Susan, amen. The most immoral and amoral person who has ever run for president. And yet so few cared. I had no idea of your career and the impact trump had on it.
Since the election I've avoided most of the commentary, short of The Racket News and a couple of my favorites on The Bulwark.
In fact, Johnathan V Last (JVL) from the Bulwark wrote what might be his best piece ever. Entitled "A Modest Proposal: Let Trump Be Trump." It made my spirits soar. While on its face it is dark, the reality of foolish people electing a fool will result in utter and total disaster.
His summation is crystal clear; "Make him own it. All of it."
I saw that earlier. I take some small, fleshly comfort in that same notion, but then I have to think of all those who will ultimately be hurt, and it wont just be Trump stains damaged in the fallout.
I've been featured in The Bulwark, as well. I like what they're doing over there.
And this is an article I was interviewed for back when Trumpism put a stake in the heart of conservative media. It's crazy. The same person that ended me and several of my colleagues was the same person who had just told my editor to leave me alone, let me "do my thing," because I was drawing so many views to the site.
I remember those days. I even defended your right to express your opinion. I remember the moderator threatening and following through by suspending commenters who made unacceptable personal insults toward you. It was a surprise to see you gone.
I'm certain you will disagree, but I decided you were fired because you lacked objectivity in reporting. You wrote about the Russia accusations as if they were established facts instead of the hoax they turned out to be. You lambasted a congressman for warning President Trump about scheming against him by Congress and his own administration. You made name calling and insults an art form.
You would be absolutely WRONG in your reasoning behind my ouster. If that was the case, then what about all of those who were booted on the exact same day, including our editor, Caleb Howe? I'll admit that I was by far the most abrasive Trump critic, but what about the others? The only thing we all had in common was we were not licking Trump's feet.
Could be you are correct but, it's not unusual for several people to be fired on the same day for various reasons or for related reasons. Maybe Caleb called the boss an SOB when he was told the boss had had enough of you.
My supposition is just as factual as the Russia hoax, the Charlottesville hoax, the Hillary's email joke hoax and the bloodbath hoax.
From a "Daily Beast" article at the time, announcing the mass firing:
"Another fired staffer, who requested anonymity to speak freely, said the layoffs “definitely” had political motivations. “They canned someone who brought in 700k to 800k page views per month,” the writer told The Daily Beast. “Lately that would be around 10 percent of monthly traffic.”
Indeed, the website’s highest-trafficked writer, Susan Wright, has been openly critical of not just President Trump—routinely decrying his various scandals, “desperate” behavior, and self-contradictions—but of the unabashed pro-Trump sycophants in conservative media, such as Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
Wright makes “significantly less” than other, more pro-Trump writers who remain with the site and generate less traffic, a source noted to The Daily Beast."
So I was bringing in nearly a million views to the site a month, making less money than other writers... that's really crappy business planning, there. It's almost like Trump himself made that deal.
BTW, Caleb was halfway between Charlotte, NC and D.C. for a scheduled Salem Media meeting when he was called on the road and told. It was out of the blue, completely unexpected. As I pointed out in the article, if you were capable of any sort of thought that didnt involve sticking your head up Trump's butt, you'd see that he'd just been told to leave me alone, because I was making them money! Just a little insight for you, since you're obviously so deep in the dark about how these things work: hate clicks pay the same as love clicks, when it comes to contract blogging. All that matters is that they click.
I was there. None of us were in the dark about what happened. We discussed it. We understood what was going on. There were multiple interviews and articles about it, at the time. It wasnt some vague, "Gee... I wonder why they all got released at the same time?" moment. Everybody knew.
More insults and name calling. You were there, then you weren't. Some bosses do not like bad reviews. The "author" designation does not negate accountability in a corporate environment. The Racket News gives everyone a say-so. You are where you belong.
Your views have been thoroughly rejected. It takes a big ego to feel superior to the entire electorate. Kamala is no more scrupulous than Donald Trump and she covered up Joe Biden's incompetence thereby perpetrating the most egregious political fraud ever.

And I am truly, deeply grateful.

Sheer brilliance. Here's a link, i'm not sure if it will open as much of the writing on the site is for subscribers only. https://www.thebulwark.com/p/a-modest-proposal-let-trump-be-trump

That you still call Russia's involvement a hoax shows just how little you care for truth.
Claiming Trump is a Russian puppet is an outright lie and a hoax.
Hey, nutjob...

You're demanding objectivity from an opinion writer. That's just silly.
Maybe but perhaps her boss at the time expected something other than falsehoods and vindictive rants.
Spoken like someone with no insight to the inner workings of the business.
You evidently knew little of that particular business and the corporate culture. You flunked out.
Your views have been thoroughly rejected. It takes a big ego to feel superior to the entire electorate. Kamala is no more scrupulous than Donald Trump and she covered up Joe Biden's incompetence thereby perpetrating the most egregious political fraud ever.
Ok, Karen.
