"Only the best people." Who can forget those infamous words as trump hires, embraces and endorses only those fractured and fervently flawed flakes who seem to gravitate to the endless opportunities of grift. The cost...self-abasement in the service of and to one man.

Sadly pathetic, indeed.

Cornyn: a fence-riding cowboy. Love it.

Of course, this isn't a story about Trump controlling the party. It's a story about Trump being in line with his voters (or the reverse).

True enough: Paxton didn't win because Trump endorsed him, Trump endorsed him because Paxton was going to win.

That may be. He's guessing their (my) mood at a high degree of accuracy right now across dozens of races. I'll take it either way.

He's made plenty of bad bets on endorsements, too.

But sure, let's cheer for the GOP voters not giving a crap about principles/decency/integrity...

Heh. Sure. That's what it is. Those *not* in agreement with you are reprobates.

Or just us. Whatever. Missed you, buddy.

Can you think of a more sanitized word to call Ken Paxton than that?

Ah, you're making a narrow Paxton/Paxton supporters claim not the broader Trump endorsed/supporters.

The man has some baggage. I withdraw my previous comment. In the narrower context, I can't particularly object as written.

That being said, the family values crowd (meaning those who voted for Paxton who would have some sort of hypocrisy claim leveled against them due to their facially shared (with him) moral commitments) have been brought low and they're none-too picky these days. They're looking for someone who acts on their behalf or at least looks the part. He makes those noises and performs those actions fairly well.

Naturally, this could be said to generally explain Trump as well.
