It might be: depends on how Maine Dems vote. We can hope that they rank Platner after either Mills or Costello, but they may be in a sour enough mood to dump Collins regardless of the Dem candidate that advances.
"Susan Collins is like a box of chocolates: You never know what you’re going to get. She might stand strong on principles that other Republicans have long since abandoned, or she might fret, express her disappointment and frustration, and vote the party line anyway."
We know exactly what we'll get with Collins. If her vote actually matters, she'll back Trump. If she can be in the opposition of a measure that was going to fail anyways, she'll vote with the opposition to burnish her "maverick" credentials.
I've been fascinated that almost no coverage of Plattner names the Totenkopf - a word with plenty of resonance: "Oooh, that sounds scary" "It is, young Jamie, it is." Instead they say "A Nazi symbol". One could very well do both.
Congratulations to your daughter. It's a great milestone and I wish her the best in her life as an adult. I'm sure she has been reared the right way. I'm at the other end of the cycle. My son just retired.
I suppose it doesn't matter to you that congressional democrats, with the exception of Senator Fetterman, will invariably vote the party line no matter how misguided it might be.
Fetterman doesn't even do his job - he sits in the hall on his phone 'cause he won't wear a suit. Just pokes his head in now and again to vote when he's told to.
Kind of too late. Also, nothing wrong with Sen. Susan Collins.
There is a slight chance for Mills.
Collins is one of best remaining Republicans, but I still don’t trust her, especially given the stakes.

(Also, congrats on your daughter's graduation - does that make you an empty nester now?)
We have a couple of months before we make that transition. College in the fall!

Maybe I just haven't read enough.

Guess you have to choose your poison.

Nice to have you back, Curtis. Thanks for the compliment, and best wishes to you and your son.
"Maine Dems should dump Platner" is a more apropos title.
