In this case, winning is defined as thousands of their citizens dead and all urban areas Kiev and east destroyed to a level where rebuilding, without Western/Hedge fund involvement is all but impossible. Do I have that right?

You have an element of truth. What is your prescription for victory?

At this point, not unlike Vietnam and Afghanistan, the opportunity for victory has been lost. Of course, if you are part of the Military/Industrial Complex, then each day is a little more victory to take to the bank or contribute to the next election cycle.

I’d define victory for Ukraine as not being occupied and enslaved by Russia. There’s a strong possibility that the war ends with that goal met. Unfortunately, fighting off invasions normally mean lots of death and destruction, but if you define losing a war as incurring casualties and damage then no war is ever won. And there’s some truth to that.

The Ukrainians, not us, have made the decision to resist, with or without our help. I hope that we’d do as well under similar circumstances.
