Let's face it, there is no good solution to this war. Criticize Trump/Vance all you want, but they weren't dealt a very good hand here. The only way Russia could have been stopped was for America to sacrifice blood and treasure and fight along side Ukraine. But that wasn't happening under Biden, and it certainly won't happen under Trump. It would seem that the only real solution now to at least get the killing halted is for Putin to get land, that being the Crimea, and probably at least the eastern third of Ukraine as well. Of course, as I have predicted, the final outcome will be the whole of Ukraine returning to the Russian orbit in some fashion. And really, who's going to stop Putin? It won't be the United States, that is sure. We will have bigger fish to fry trying to beat back China's advance in Taiwan.
I don’t believe Putin will settle with what Trump offers. He would take that territory and move west for more. Quickly. How much would a Trump tower be worth covered in the blood of hundreds of thousands?
Time to play hardball perhaps to stop this war criminal. Diplomacy hasn’t worked. Sanctions haven’t worked. Time to make Russian citizens stand up, it is their government. A free press does not exist there nor has for decades. The UN & NATO are not viable options because of despotic veto nations. I’m floating the idea of independent democratic nations choosing, perhaps with thirty day notice, of denying Russian passports entry to their country. Place the onus of regime change on the citizenry. Besides the oligarchs, there are many well off Russians. Limiting their holiday choices to Iran, Hungary, Belarus and North Korea might wake them up to the fact that their leader really is a very bad man.
Your last two paragraphs tell it all. There's no end to the war that will favor Ukraine, and we are all pissed off about that. But the reality is that the USA and the rest of NATO will never enter the fray to retake Crimea. Maybe, with our help, Ukraine can continue killing Russians until Putin is gone. Maybe his successor will be less aggressive. Short of all-out war, we really have nothing but hopes and prayers.
Have we tried sending Ukraine everything they've asked for (and are even willing to buy outright)?
US sent everything Biden wanted. Trump sends more than he cares to.
