So God forbid, worst case scenario, TFG is reelected. (Pausing to breathe) How soon before he declares the northern half of Mexico an independent nation and moves peacekeeping troops in? Didn’t we fight that war once before? I sit here shaking my head and praying God to take hold of the hearts of Putin and TFG and squeeze until they become something more human.
It must really hurt all the TDS infected lefties at the Racket knowing that if 45 was still in charge we would not be in this mess. The Mexican idea is excellent but probably more of a ploy to get Mexico back on side protecting our border like they did with 45 in the White House.
There is no evidence that Trump wanted to leave NATO. There is lots of evidence that Trump wanted NATO members to live up to their financial commitments and he threatened them in order to achieve that. It now appears that NATO will need significantly more contributions from its members in order to counter the aggression of Russia.
Putin was waiting alright, he was waiting for a weak and feckless American leader and he has one now.
I said what Putin wanted: do you think Trump removing the US from NATO, using the excuse of how much member nations spent on their own militaries, is outside the realm of reasonable possibility and probability?
A minor but significant correction, Trump wanted NATO members to live up to their spending commitments. I can imagine a scenario where America would have withdrawn but it would be very far fetched and that would mean it was not a reasonable possibility.
He said himself that he specifically threatened to pull us out of NATO. 2018 NATO summit. So I think its safe to assume he may have mentioned that to his best buddy Putin.
You are entitled to that opinion but I think you are wrong. We would be energy self sufficient and would have lng to sell to Europe to help them be less dependent on Russia. We also would not have sat around waiting for Russia to make it's move in Ukraine, stronger measures would have been brought to bear before the invasion. The list goes on and on ...
I see who is your ruler, don’t criticize the current guy for canceling diplomacy talks.
Nope easier to blame Trump.
We are in deep water and floundering.
I just hope the current guy doesn’t sink the ship.
We are a sovereign nation also that is being invaded through our southern border with the assistance of the new guy. Free transportation to all comers and a tremendous burden on the nation.
Speaking out against the invasion of Ukraine is useless. Biden's policy regarding the invasion is a total failure. Trump might not have been able to stop it, but the only way he could have done worse is to get the USA involved in a war over a nation with whom we have no mutual defense treaty. If Putin wants the break-away provinces and the rest of Ukraine, he will not be deterred short of war.
If Russian forces are ordered to stand down before taking whatever parts of Ukraine are Putin's objective, I will take back everything I just wrote.
The USA has no cards to play. Our NATO allies will cave when they run out of fuel. The Current Guy assured we will not be almost energy independent and capable of assisting NATO allies. The Current Guy and his democrat cronies are underfunding our military and turning it into a social experiment instead of war fighters. Big change is needed soon and that should be a bigger story than whining about Trump.
I don't think it's that bleak. We do have cards to play with sanctions and NATO is united. How long that will last is an open question, but staring down the Russian army may do wonders to motivate NATO members.
I am very glad that Trump is not heading the country at this point. I don't trust him as far as I can throw him (especially) when it comes to Putin, and that would't be far at all.
The only meaningful sanctions would be to cut off Russia's gas sales to Europe. Biden can't do that. The new pipeline is paused but that may not last. Staring down the Russian army would be effective if the staring contest were at Ukraine's eastern border instead of at the western border with Poland and the Balkans. Except we would probably lose with no backup.
No matter who is in charge, if the USA and its allies don't get their act together and build an effective military force, the game is over. I do not see that happening in Europe so it's up to the USA assuming we ever get decisive leadership with the right priorities.

1.) Trump absolutely would have let Putin invade.
2.) Putin was sitting back and waiting for Trump to declare the US is leaving NATO.

We would be in a much worse mess of 45 was still in the White House. Much worse!!

Yes you do, hope this helps.
I'll give you that point.

Derp - I read the opposite of what you wrote instead of you DID write.
Leaving the original comment below as a cautionary tale:
"If Russian forces are ordered to stand down before taking whatever parts of Ukraine are Putin's objective, I will take back everything I just wrote."
How do you believe that assessment is holding up now?
