David, I have to agree that the health insurance industry in the US is broken. Fortunately I had great medical insurance up until Obamacare was enacted at which my great medical insurance became good medical insurance with much higher deductibles became a reality. Now that I am on Medicare, I can only say that government is not the answer. Reviewing a statement from Medicare is a trip through fantasy land. The charges are astronomical and the approved amount is usually significantly reduced. The health provider knows what Medicare will allow but submits charges that are what? Are the charges truly reflective of the actual costs or inflated to increase the allowable total? It's absurd. PDPs are not better.

Changes need to be made and will only be done so by the medical insurance agencies and the government joining together for significant reforms. I don't see that happening, but really do not believe a single payer government plan is the answer.

There have been all kinds of proposals and plans run through Congress. Back in 2012, Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA) led the Republican Study Committee, and had a pretty good package to overhaul our health insurance program. Instead we still have Obamacare, toothless and neither affordable nor economically viable. Congress can fix this, and there are solutions working with existing health insurers, who have all the data and oceans of money. It's not about access to healthcare, it's about access to the money to pay the bill.
