This administration has systematically removed steps 2 and 3, forcing many legal immigrants to claw for TPS or other arrangements, then people can claim “well, it’s temporary.” No that is not how it was ever supposed to work. I agree, stop TPS but don’t send everyone forced to used it home. Just stop issuing new ones. That’s now what happened and it was done purposely that way.
And as I asked: if it's not safe to travel to those countries, how can TPS be reasonably ended for the people from those countries that are already here?
The German Jews were born in Germany as were generations before them. They broke no laws to be there and were never granted any temporary status, or overstayed a visa. Still many were happy to return to their homeland if they would not have all their wealth and property stolen as they left. Some felt more German than Jewish and wanted to stay. No one was asking the government for anything other than fair treatment, which did not include subsidies.

Anybody who came here 20 years ago to work, when neither party was all that interested in enforcing immigration law, and before the voters clearly desired fewer illegal immigrants, should be allowed to stay IF no civil police have cause to be interested in them for a crime, IF their children were born and raised and educated here, and IF they renounce their citizenship to another country. Their children are and should be citizens. Tourist citizenship where the child is raised in a foreign country is a scam to be outlawed. Between the two cases, Congress needs to set the rules and, it seems, set the consequences for an administration that ignores the rules, as well as for the non-citizens who disobey the law. My (totally non-professional) legal logic is that the founders expected anyone who came to America, came to live and raise a family, ambassadors, international business people, and people like Toynbee, excepted. Even in 1865, the idea that someone would come, give birth and return home with the child shortly thereafter, was too ridiculous to consider. When land was virtually free for the clearing of it, there was no need for welfare or limiting the numbers who came. To support some people on welfare and invite others to come and work is crazy. If work needs to be done pay enough for a citizen to do it. Train them if necessary. Hungry people learn fast.

Our uncontrolled borders were a huge source of dispute and has left a lot of hard feelings. The question remains though what does "temporary" mean? If TPS status is granted to refugees it has to be renewed. In theory, these refugees are granted TPS which allows them to reside within and work in this country. Presumably the basis for the TPS in any given country will not last forever. If conditions improve those refugees are free to return to their homeland. There is an attitude of the open borders crew, that once TPS status is granted, the "temporary" status is removed and these refugees are free to stay here forever. I don't think that was the original intent.
I feel bad not only for the Ethiopians but also refugees from the other countries that lost TPS but then again I feel bad for the illegals who entered the country undocumented and lived for years and years in this country. That being said, our government needs to follow the law. If they don't like the law as written then change it. Temporary means temporary though and when conditions warrant it, the protected status needs to end and refugees need to return to their country.
