They sure don't make them like they used to. We have literally become a "throw-away" society. Quick story that i love to tell, especially given our lack of success with refrigerators and more pointedly the darned ice makers in them.

In 2010 i was the president of the Del Webb Sun Cities Museum. Our fridge is vintage January 1, 1960 and from opening day. It quit working and a repairman came out and got it going. Three days later it quit and an elderly docent told me they used to unplug it and try and get it going again.

We pulled everything out over the weekend and plugged it back in on Monday. I am back on the board now and am happy to say it is still running and i love telling the story to visitors. Obviously it was American made and from an era when they built things to last.

On a sadder note, i once gave my wife a gift that plugged in for Christmas (a vacuum cleaner) and am still paying the price for it. 30 years later and i am doing all the vacuuming.

My wife and I had a brand-new fridge in our last apartment (that had been renovated before we moved in), and that thing started having all sorts of problems in it's first two years of life. Biggest issue for us was the vent in the freezer that went down to the fridge got blocked with ice, preventing proper cooling and frosting the freezer.

The new dishwasher also had a few parts break. Brand rhymed with Len Moore.
