The paragraph on Mamdani has an an incomplete sentence at the end, "I think Mamdani"...
I'll add my own thoughts there: I think Mamdani won by much lower margins than needed to be thought of as anything than a weak candidate in a safe area. I also think that if Trump decides to mess with NYC because of his election then that will give him the ability to focus solely on countering Trump and not to implement his dumber ideas. We'll see though.
If Dems are gonna take anything away, it should be to run candidates that can win in their respective districts/states. Back to the big tent.
Here is what I meant to say: For what it’s worth, I think Mamdani’s election is more a reflection of bad mainstream Democratic and Republican candidates than an embrace of socialism.
I agree that generally it is not an embrace of socialism - but it's also not unusual for socialists to win at the municipal level of government. Heck, NYC's mayors that is generally considered the most effective was LaGuardia - a socialist. The doomcasters need to go touch some grass.
The American experiment in freedom and liberty for our people is coming to an end. History suggests that great powers get about 250 years of existence, then they either rot from within by moral decay, or they get overrun by outside forces. In the case of America, we are rotting from within, and the results from Tuesday night are indicative of what is happening now, and what is to come. Very sad, especially for those in my family and circle of friends who are much younger than me and will have to live through it. They might even have to fight another civil war before everything is said and done.
That’s pretty pessimistic. We definitely have our work cut out for us, but returning to the founder’s ideals can still work. I think that’s what Tuesday was about for a lot of us.
Not pessimistic, rather realistic. Make no mistake, i am in the fight as long as God gives me the ability, but if Democrats are going to keep voting for candidates who are farther and farther left, and in the case of Mamdani, out and out communist, I have to wonder where this country will be ten years hence.
So you're just ignoring Spanberger and Sherril (state-level elections) and hyper-focusing on a municipal-level election?
Mamdani will not have the ability to seize the means of production - meanwhile, actual seizures are happening right now by the Trump admin and it's crickets.
I said candidates who are farther and farther left, who do you think I meant, or do i have to name every single person who won last night for you to be satisfied?
Who's more "left" (aka socialist) than MAGA right now? Demanding companies provide the government a stake in their companies is the definition of socialism.
When you think communist/socialist what do you actually think it means?
(As an aside, the whole left right thing really doesn't track well and we should all stop using it as a reference for our politics)
MAGA was irrelevant Tuesday night, and I'm not MAGA, but nice try. I referenced the Democrats because they now represent the immediate threats to America.
Trump may have overestimated his support or perhaps underestimated the urgency some of his supporters feel about his promised policies where the economic effects have not been realized yet. However, it is hard to claim that the Democrats, Dem Socialists or whatever color dog more moderate Dems claim to represent, have done a better job reading the public mind and delivering what people want to see.
So you prefer communists, lawbreakers and foreigners to a President who enforces the laws. We have gone way too far in allowing subversives to stay in this country - including the 600,000 Chinese that President Trump has decided are OK. No more immigration without proper vetting. Any who hint at undermining federal policy should be deported immediately.
Last night's election proved only that blue states and northern Virginia federal employees are still blue as are voters in Georgia who want free power. Poor turnout by right wingers is on them. The whole mess sucks.

Thanks for pointing out the typo.
You're welcome.

Or hang out with Bernie a bit.

It seems like you're just pissed off at welfare.
His voters think he will.
No, they just think he'll freeze the rent or make buses free or something. He literally has no ability to do so as mayor.
He might lack the authority to follow through but his voters are too uninformed to know that. They believe.

The companies want to survive. They have to live by the savior's terms or fail. It's known as collateral.

Or the fact he's a Muslim.
