Given what I know at the moment from the reporting that's come out, I'm of the opinion that Biden should fire Milley immediately, then throw him the biggest parade we can manage.
A strong opinion held weakly - and I reserve the right to revise (as I likely will need to) as more information comes out. There should be a public and transparent investigation (remember those?) to determine exactly what happened, if only to clear away the current fog of confusion. Milley should be the first person clamoring for those hearings.
I think a congressionally launched investigation would be good, and give Milley the opportunity to tell his side of the story. Let the chips fall where they may. Maybe something along the lines of an independent commission or similar, given that hyper partisan reaction to Milley by many members of Congress.
Agreed but congressional investigations seldom get to the bottom of things and serve only as ideological platforms for grandstanding committee members.
If I had a better alternative, I'd suggest it. But you're totally right. Milley would be lucky to get 15 minutes to speak all day the way those hearings are run now.
Yeah. What you and HCI say is the way things should work. I'm unemployed so I get to watch a lot of congressional hearings. They are mostly useless and further divide us. I'm not immune to it. I cheer when I agree and boo when I don't. Sometimes it's like watching animated opinion site comments.
It depends on whether Woodward got it right or is sensationalizing once again to sell books. I do agree with those who say if Woodward's account is factual, he should be held accountable for not reporting it through proper channels or making it public. We can't have the military making policy and conducting foreign relations. Tom Pompeo and John Ratcliffe should have been involved but it appears they weren't.
Before the book excerpts were made public? While Trump was still in office? To whom in the government chain of command? I must have missed it. Unless Woodward is lying, Milley is not a hero.
Anyone can get away with saying anything about a public figure. You can write that you can't say Steve Berman is not a serial killer or that "Would Donald Trump, cornered in the White House and a national pariah after the failed insurrection, have taken revenge on the country that rejected him by starting a war? I can’t say that he wouldn’t have." Neither statement can be countered but they definitely show a lack of objectivity.
I'm not a fan of Milley. Having said that what exactly did he do wrong? I'm still trying to figure that out. He called China with 18 people on the call including note takers. Gen Keane is sticking up for him and claiming his actions were not out of the range of his job as well as other righties in the intel community. Much ado about nothing. The guy's a bum but you can't end his career over lies.
Except the part about warning the enemy if an attack was imminent. If that's true, it's bad. A military officer can't do that. A military officer is honor bound to not carry out illegal orders but refusing to confront whoever issues such orders is not the way and certainly not before any orders are given. Maybe congress should clarify the laws governing when attacks are justified and better defining when a declaration of war is required.
If the reports in the book are true, Milley has clearly committed treason. I suspect that the reports in the book are inaccurate as they were with the Trump reports so I am holding final judgement until the lying sack is testifying before congress, well at least before the Patriots in
Congress, the Socialists Democrats will go out of their way to twist the facts so that Trump is the evil demagogue that they want him to be.

Great idea. Put hyper partisan reactions by both parties on public display.

It looks as though he did report it.
