Good morning. Thanks for the balanced look at real problems that are either ignored, excused or distorted by partisans. The mention of the Monroe Doctrine was apt. The USA should have been paying more attention to our sphere of influence in the last 80 years.
The US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida that will be prosecuting the alleged attempted assassin was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His name is Markenzy Lapointe, a Marine Gulf War veteran.
You said a lot without really saying what the actual problem is with Haitians. You named one violent attack are you saying they bring a ton of crime. Or is your case really "of course people don't like 10000 brown immigrants around".
A broken clock is right twice a day. DT is insane much of the time but (possibly by chance) he’s not always wrong. And it shouldn’t be ignored when he happens to bring up legit issues, just as it shouldn’t be when he doesn’t.
DT at a big rally is public info. When he is at home and on the golf course is not. This one is huge and might suggest a bigger type of security leak.
"At home" and on his golf course - so in other words, the highest likelihood of encountering him. No security leak is necessary, though that should of course be investigated.
I agree to some extent….but when I’m “at home” I’m still not there all day long….and even though it’s his golf course, he’s not on it all day long. If the gunman knew he’d be there on that day at that time, that’s obviously a problem. But if the gunman was camped out in the bushes or casing the joint and he happened to be there, that’s also a problem.
My understanding is that that particular golf outing was unplanned.
And while Trump does leave on occasion, he is home and golfing more often than not.
We'll have to learn more, but yes - it does speak to security issues, though that's an interesting question as to responsibility for enhancing security at such a large property. Is it solely the US Secret Service? Is it partially Trump's, as owner of the golf club?
He voted for Trump in 2016, supported Tulsi Gabbard in 2020, and wanted a Vivek Ramaswamy/Nikki Haley ticket to take on Trump in the primaries this year.
The guy is all over the place politically, and from all evidence is yet another loon.
The claims are disputed. The Twitter account in question is suspended. We can’t verify. The public records show contributions to Democrats since 2019. Is it possible? Yes. But it’s not fact until it’s verified. We will eventually find out.
There are tools to access tweets from suspended accounts.
Yes, we should wait to find out - so "None of that is true" is not a true statement.
One other thing to note: this is at Trump's golf club and residence. Trump golfs a lot. That an attempted assassin would just show up at Trump's club and residence doesn't require a conspiracy.
A better question is: how did someone with that criminal history get their hands on an AK-47, or really any weapon of that sort?
Ok sure I’m lying about all of it. Pure coincidence. Nobody wants to kill Trump except his own deranged voters. Of course. We are all unreliable. You sound like Captain Queeg searching for the mystery cooler key. Proved it with geometric logic.
Haiti had temporary protected status during the Trump administration, so "when Trump was in office many of these migrants came in legally" is a factual statement that counters the "if Trump was in office..." line.
The "problem" is that foreign-born brown people moved into the neighborhood. Let's just be crystal clear on it: doesn't matter if they're legal migrants, whether they work legal jobs and pay taxes - they're foreign, and brown.
And to take this one step elsewhere: it's not just migrants, NIMBYs don't even allow housing for homeless or the poor or really anyone to be built. And there tends to be an overlap on the "no new housing" and the "keep brown people out" camps
And NIMBYs are all Republicans I suppose? And the TPS window for 200,000 Haitians would have been extended by Trump? And the other 300,000 would have gotten TPS protection? So you’re saying Trump == Biden
No, not all NIMBYs are Republicans - did I suggest the overlap is 100%?
My point is that many came in legally under Trump, and - what is the actual issue you have with the migration of what is mostly hard working people making a better life for themselves outside of a crime-ridden home country?
Other things to note:
There's barely 5k Haitians in all of Ohio, so it's more like 2k in Springfield.
Springfield has been in decline for years, and that they are a positive contribution to the city keeps getting ignored.
Median wage for Haitians is ~65k/year. That's under the general median wage in the US, but not terribly so. The poverty rate for the Haitian community is 15% vs 11.5% overall.
I never defended Springfield, OH. That’s totally a gross lie. However, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Georgia are not lies. There is a Haitian migrant problem. We let too many in too fast with little vetting. It’s a problem.

Thank you. One day we'll do a deeper dive into the Monroe Doctrine.

We need more immigrants who are net positive to our society.
I think by all evidence that the Haitians, and most immigrants in fact, are net positive.

Great piece with 2 excellent points.

None of that is true. Don’t believe what you see online.
Oh, you're so sure about that?
He had a Twitter account: it's from his own account that this info is gathered.
Perhaps expand your info sources.

I said you were mistaken to state what you did unequivocally, not that you lied.
You should have highlighted that information about Routh is all over the place - you chose not to. If you want to be defensive about it, go ahead.

Not lies in what form? That X number of Haitians have migrated? That the neighbors don't like it? Or something else?
