David, I found a columnist who seems to agree that the conflicts in Israel are the "same picture". Her reasoning is that both Hamas and Russia are distressed over the increasing militarism by their neighbors, Israel and Ukraine. I suppose it's possible to argue any point for any reason.
It’s interesting that some on the left has a Blame America First attitude/blame the victims on Israel while some rightists have a similar attitude on Ukraine. She seems to blame both victims which is about 180° from my view, other than saying the wars are similar.
I agree and hope you know I give you more credit than thinking you were victim blaming. I'm just amazed at how many arguments can be made from so many points of view on the same topic. It's why I question assumptions about any individual's motivation at any time.
I’m also much more concerned about homegrown political radicals and self-radicalized Islamist terrorists than border-crossers. Over the past decade or so, that’s where the biggest threats seem to have been.
There are violent radicals on both sides. In addition to the J6 rioters and leftist anarchists, there was the guy who attacked the congressional baseball game, the guys who tried to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer, the MAGA bomber, the guy who was stalking Justice Kavanaugh and a number of lower profile attacks on politicians, political offices, abortion clinics, pregnancy centers, and churches. There are several racially and sexually motivated mass shooters. The Q crowd is complicit in several violent incidents, as is the Boogaloo Bois.
It can happen here, and although it could be crazy homegrown nutjobs, it could just as likely be foreign infiltrators who hate America, Israel, Christians and Jews. They do not have to walk across a desert. They simply present themselves at a port of entry with no ID and ask for asylum under whatever cover their language and ethnic appearance could lend credibility. They could then join up with a few hundred like-minded individuals living here under lax vetting standards, obtain firearms and explosives, and do untold damage. Some of that might have taken place in Israel.
"It can't happen here." Famous last words, Group think. Intelligence failures. Wishful thinking. Disaster.
All errors should be on the side of protecting the US citizenry. To hell with accommodating the rest of the world.
It amazes me that after 7 to 10 million invaders come across the southern border with the administration knowing the true identity of less than 25% of those same invaders that people can not recognize the danger that this represents. For decades, we have fought to keep the terrorists out and by the grace of God have managed to stop them from hurting us at home. Now that the administration has given up that fight and allowed so many unidentified into the country, how can anyone say that the odds of a terrorist attack by those same infiltrators is the same as it was prior to this administration. Add to that the fact that the security apparatus of America has been refocused on a virtually non existent threat from Americans, we are doomed to suffer another massive attack.
Your premise is wrong. Escalating numbers of border arrests are proof that the Administration has not “given up.” The fact is that Biden border policy isn’t that different from Trump’s. We can’t control if more people cross, partly because of claims about open borders, but we can stop them if they do.
There is a risk of terrorists crossing, but perhaps you can explain why they haven’t chosen this method in 20+ years.
The fact is that the majority of terrorist attacks over the past ten years or so have been of domestic origin. That does not indicate a “nonexistent” threat.
Escalating border arrests mean very little in the face of 7 to 10 million invaders successfully crossing the southern border. Trumps policy was to stop the invasion and i acknowledge it took him quite a while to get past the left's legal challenges but he did and the resulting cuts in invasion numbers reflect the true policy and the success he had. How many invaders came across the southern border after the remain in Mexico policy was finalized? You can not look back at the last 20 years and compare it to the hellscape that is the Biden plan. Once again 7 to 10 million in the last 2 years and we are lucky if we know the true identity of 25% of those invaders. Finally the entire domestic terrorism ploy is just a false flag to refocus the left on something they can all hate. The great Uniter back at work! When the FBI decided that the parents of school age children being programed by the left's identity politics in the school system were domestic terrorists, the administrations claims of domestic terrorists being a major problem lost all credibility.
Sounds more like a good reason to do a better job controlling and vetting immigrants. Enforcing firearms laws and better tracking purchases of explosive materials certainly would be a good thing.
True. Catching and imprisoning criminals would help. Not sure what we do about anti-American citizens. Right-wing and left-wing nut jobs and criminals all have the same rights until they are caught breaking the law.
The important thing is taking those threats seriously, instead of dismissing the threats because one views those groups as allies (as was done when the FBI stated white supremacists and the far-right are our most-significant domestic terrorism threat).
Some of each has occurred in both wars. Russia simply is unconcerned with collateral damage. In the case of Israel, Hamas is targeting Jewish non-combatants for extermination. It is not random. And, as a side story, we have thousands of Americans cheering on the violent savages doing the slaughtering. Your picture is not complete.
There are reports of torture chambers and executions of civilians in Ukraine. I think that goes beyond being unconcerned with collateral damage, although that is certainly true too. In addition to those, Russia’s terror bombing campaign is indiscriminate although missiles kill in a less personal manner than terrorist fighters.
Yeah, I can believe some Russians are ruthless just as some American soldiers in Vietnam were. I suppose it's a matter of degree. I see a 100% savagery score for Hamas.

Yeah, just an observation. I didn’t mean to imply otherwise
Just to note: it can happen here, and if it does it'll be our own religious terrorists that do it - no border crossing necessary.
I’m also much more concerned about homegrown political radicals and self-radicalized Islamist terrorists than border-crossers. Over the past decade or so, that’s where the biggest threats seem to have been.
"homegrown political radicals"
Please elaborate.
Sounds like good reason to make it more difficult to get guns and explosives, eh?
Sounds more like a good reason to do a better job controlling and vetting immigrants. Enforcing firearms laws and better tracking purchases of explosive materials certainly would be a good thing.
Enforcing firearms laws isn't going to reduce the internal threats we face.
True. Catching and imprisoning criminals would help. Not sure what we do about anti-American citizens. Right-wing and left-wing nut jobs and criminals all have the same rights until they are caught breaking the law.
FBI, ATF, and DHS.
The important thing is taking those threats seriously, instead of dismissing the threats because one views those groups as allies (as was done when the FBI stated white supremacists and the far-right are our most-significant domestic terrorism threat).
The FBI might have more credibility if they developed sources other than the SPLC.
I can’t disagree more. These are not the same at all!
What would you say makes them different?
Random violence as opposed to deliberate torture and killing.
I’m really not sure which you’re saying which. Both seem to apply in both cases.
Some of each has occurred in both wars. Russia simply is unconcerned with collateral damage. In the case of Israel, Hamas is targeting Jewish non-combatants for extermination. It is not random.
