We can say pretty much what we please and vote our convictions, feelings and delusions. We can live where we please and work where please (or not work) and still survive. We do not really get much change and, when we do, citizens either do not like it or are unhappy because the change is not taking four decades. What we do not acknowledge is that our unhappiness is really with our fellow citizens.

They had mortars in 1775. Not accurate mortars but they existed. The Royal Navy and shore based batteries pounded Charlestown for a whole day before Howe’s ground attack. For all the good it did. Redcoat victory was never really in doubt. It was the cost of victory that bloodied British noses, especially in London.
