I am at Erick Erickson’s “The Gathering” today and tomorrow.
Gov. Brian Kemp was attacked by former President Donald Trump this week, including references to the governor’s wife, Marty Kemp.
Kemp responded on X, saying to “leave my family out of it.” At today’s session, Kemp told Erick that the dispute is “a lot of noise, a lot of distraction.”
Kemp said he will support the Republican nominee, meaning Trump. Apparently a good Republican means letting bygones be bygones.
“It is in our best interests,” Kemp said, “that we win in 2024, unlike…2020.”
Trump, for his part, said in a recent interview that he would be interested in repairing his relationship with Kemp.
With all the water under that bridge, I am not sure it will happen, but Kemp isn’t thin-skinned. A whole lotta bygones.
Have a good time there Steve. Nothing ever changes though, does it? The donald shits on republicans, craps on their family members and insults those who who don't properly worship at his feet. Then in an effort to be good party members, they crawl back and into his good graces by publicly humiliating themselves.
All is forgiven as they tow the party line; "he along can save America." It hasn't been one or two, dozens, countless numbers of good solid conservatives with great credentials who have prostrated themselves and allowed trump to just be trump. The ones who wouldn't, left politics. Kudos to them.
It is one of the reasons the republican party has seen so many defections to independents. Core values matter, ideologies matter, character matters...you all know that. Except when it comes to trump, then everything is thrown out the window and the only thing that matters is winning.
It is what it is in the era of trump. Ask Erick for me how that is wrong and why i am just blowing smoke?
Darn shame: Kemp has the opportunity to reject Trump and push for excising this cancer from American politics, and chooses to not do so - likely because he cares more about his own political future.
Let's see if he goes full Nikki Haley.
