"We are moving out of the realm of performative political theater and into the realm of national harm."

The GOP controls all three branches of the federal gov't.

The Democrats have a good-enough message in that they're the only thing standing between voters and higher healthcare costs, and it's entirely within the GOP's power to leave healthcare alone. They also have a *great* message in that this is Mike Johnson's shutdown, as he's buying time to figure out what to do before he has to bring the House back into session, and House overrides him through a discharge petition to release the Epstein files.

Trump's not doing himself any favors pushing back against the lower-level courts ordering him to make SNAP payments and having his Transportation Secretary ruin everyone's Thanksgiving travel plans.

The leopards are feasting well this season.

Yep! I go along with your thought that the traveling public will call their Democrat Senators and order them to vote for the Continuing Resolution. I’ve already called Patti Murray and Maria Cantwell’s offices and told them to that if I miss flying to Grandma’s house for Thanksgiving they will forever lose my vote. My closing sentence was “You better vote for the people of Washington on this and screw Chuck Shummer.”

Your bio line in your profile says you're retired and living in Texas.

People move and keep their cell phone numbers.

So? You don't live in WA, why should they give a damn what you think?

He's a Texan now - their MO is to impose on other States their preferred policies, and to scream bloody murder and persecution if another State dares do the same to them.

I think the two most likely things are the GOP capitulates on ACA subsidies and rescissions, or they kill the filibuster.

The Dens have had the better public perception on the shutdown in general, they just had a huge victory in off-year elections, and people are seeing just how much their healthcare premiums are increasing.

And they see Trump spending money on a ballroom and adorning the Oval Office in gold while fighting having to pay SNAP benefits.

Or maybe this will go until January, who knows?

SGman's avatar

Whelp, the Dems proposed a 1-year ACA subsidy extension and the GOP rejected it.

Just a ploy hoping they can take control of Congress in a year.

SGman's avatar

Yup, they could have gotten an easy end to the shutdown and decided they prefer it.

Got a Democrat Senator in your cell phone area code? Call them and urge them to vote for the people they represent NOT Chuck Shumer!

SGman's avatar

They are representing the people, just not in the way you prefer.

Thanks for the link. Good thoughts by the writer. Does he do Obamacare analysis also?

Better be careful, Torrance, you will incur the wrath of SGman. Lol
