I would imagine that Boomers still like Trump for the same reasons a lot of the other generations support him….because the alternative requires supporting cashless bail, open borders, boys magically becoming girls and girls magically becoming boys, having more sympathy for perpetrators of crimes than the victims, a justice system based on oppression hierarchy, identity poltics, etc.
"having more sympathy for perpetrators of crimes than the victims"
You mean like how the murderers of Alex Pretti, Renée Good, and Silverio Villegas Gonzalez are walking around free under the protection of the Trump "justice system".
If I started going through all the criminals that these Boomers apparently like, I wouldn't have time to get any work done. ICE killers, J6ers, pardoned fraudsters, white collar crooks, etc.
Let's see how the Boomers try and whitewash Ghislaine Maxwell's pardon[1] when Trump lets his wife's pal out of prison.
Maybe you can publish body counts caused by illegals vs. those caused by LEOs. I served in the US Army during the LBJ administration and remember the body counts well.
Also, while the killings are the big issue, it's also a rampant lack of accountability or reckoning for those deaths. It goes hand-in-hand with Trump's promises of blanket pardons[1]. You don't need to promise those, unless you're giving the okay for criminals to act on your behalf.
I really do not have a number in mind. I believe illegals are responsible for far more deaths than LEOs in enforcing immigration laws.
We've exhaustively discussed Good and Pretty and disagree. I believe they were hindering and interfering with law enforcement and acting in a threatening manner. You disagree. Ultimately the cases will be decided by those in authority. I never heard of Gonzalez before, but he was an inadmissible alien who adopted violent means to avoid arrest. https://www.ice.gov/doclib/foia/reports/ddrVILLEGASGonzalezSilverio.pdf
The WSJ post means nothing more than that Trump believes in what his administration is doing. He is replacing those he has doubts about.
"The Trump administration blitz that flooded Minnesota with immigration agents also dramatically slowed other federal investigations and prosecutions into an array of serious crimes, a Reuters review of federal court records found."
"New gun and drug prosecutions stalled. Several top prosecutors quit. Some federal agents disappeared from drug task forces and gang cases. Others took the unusual step of bringing their investigations to state authorities."
"U.S. President Donald Trump touted the operation as an urgent crime-fighting effort, targeting violent illegal immigrants. But the upheaval disrupted the regular work of the federal authorities charged with protecting public safety, according to the records and interviews with 10 current and former officials from state and federal law enforcement agencies."[1]
Not only was the surge that lead to two avoidable deaths ineffective, it actively impeded ACTUAL law enforcement in progress.
At the fringes of the Democrats and in their media, yes. But far from all Democrat voters and even politicians align with that. Look at Fetterman for example. When D’s offer only that extreme as the alternative, they consistently lose.
The problem is that the ones who believe what I posted are now the heart and soul of the Democrat party. Most Democrat voters and colleagues hate Fetterman.
Trump's instincts are that of a bully: pick on the little guy, run away from a real fight. He thought Iran was a little guy, turns out they aren't - and now they're ending up in a better strategic position than before this ill-planned war.
LBJ did himself no favors with Vietnam, but it was the Civil Rights bills that played a much bigger part in his downfall.
Interesting article Steve and one as a tried and true boomer i can sink my teeth into, so bare with me. Before i do, love all the responses to the lost souls following our dear friend Matt who have ended up here by mistake. Bots? Algorithm?
Anyway, reading Johnson's faults, i could not but help to remember exactly how we got there. JFK was the first real president i cared for or paid attention to. Had he not been assassinated, LBJ would never have become president. Never.
Seeing him sworn in on Air Force 1 was an ugly reminder of how and why he became president. I also remember all too well were JFK was murdered and the questions of potential ties. Nope, not a conspiracy kind of guy, just lots of curious events.
The column then moved from LBJ to Nixon with the conclusion of where we are today; trump. What a truly horrible threesome. America deserved better.
Which brings me to my summary: Our country should never be viewed as a reflection point of who and what the president is. Over the years through Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush and Obama we have argued over direction and ideologies, they were good and decent men. Party was always an issue, but ultimately even with all their challenges, America was seldom viewed as evil.
That's not the case today, not even close. While president trump has those that love him, our country, the one that had led the world in the pursuit of freedom, democracy and decency has forfeited it all. We are no longer envied.
I'm beginning to wonder if Matt Taibbi needs to fire his SEO and social media folks, given all the lost souls that have been wandering in here as of late.
If he had any shred of honor (and sense of how the Internet works), he'd rename his site and we'd be done with this.
I imagine he's mostly unaware of this site, and that it's more the Substack algorithm sending alerts on new articles for sites that one is not following.
I am absolutely certain Matt Taibbi knows this site exists. When they named theirs there is zero chance they missed the domain name in searching. However, I’m convinced he simply doesn’t care.

Give me a freaking break.
Or the numerous J6ers that keep getting charged/tried/convicted of child sexual assault/porn?

This just crossed my radar this morning:

Sorry. I'm blocked from the story. But I'm not surprised there are disgruntled federal employees in most agencies. Ten seems like a low number.

Disorder. That’s all it is.

And let's be clear: trump did that.
Who is this guy?
Co-founder of this site
So Matt’s partner? Wow.
Wrong site: this is "The Racket News", which predates Taibbi's "Racket News" by years.
I'm beginning to wonder if Matt Taibbi needs to fire his SEO and social media folks, given all the lost souls that have been wandering in here as of late.

Amen. Hey I’ll be happy to rename this site if Matt wants to pay us for the name and domain.
