Pete Hegseth perverts the Gospel
Let me begin by saying that anyone still doggedly clinging to the belief that this administration is aligned with a holy God is seriously detached from any real knowledge of what Christ stands for. At this point, however, it appears that MAGA supporters really have abandoned any feigned Christian values, in favor of their more base, flesh-driven impulses.
While I’ve long held the stance that Trump was a test of this nation’s resolve, as well as a strong indicator of how a failed school system can let us all down, I was never more convinced than I am now that continued support of Trump 2.0 is a spiritual sickness.
Let’s talk about the Secretary of Keg Stands, Pete Hegseth. Out of a cabal comprised entirely of halfwits, cowards, and thieving scum, this despicable clod oozes to the top, on the regular. His actions against women and service members of color, not to mention his efforts to punish those who speak out against him continually prove him to be unfit and unqualified for the high office he has been given. Literally, his only qualification is in how effusive his praise of Trump was, compared to others who could have held the position.
On Wednesday of this past week, Hegseth, who, when not playing toy soldier cosplays as a “Christian,” held a prayer meeting. During that meeting, he recited what he said was a prayer of a past military chaplain.
“Give them wisdom in every decision, endurance for the trial ahead, unbreakable unity, and overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy,” Hegseth said. He also called on God to “break the teeth of the ungodly.”
The emphasis there is mine.
Hegseth has a long history of doing things that are absolutely ungodly. He may want to rethink his wording when addressing the Father, lest he find himself on an all soups and softs diet.
So what does the Bible say about mercy?
Luke 6:36 [ESV] – “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.”
Matthew 5:7 [ESV] – ““Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”
And the one Pete may want to study on, if he can actually locate a Bible: James 2:13 [ESV] – “For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.”
Again, the emphasis is mine. None of us deserves mercy. We have all fallen short of God’s standard. We have all sinned. His mercy took Jesus to the cross to take the punishment we were due.
Hegseth’s disgusting display of biblical illiteracy follows reports of military leadership calling the current war of choice in Iran the key to Armageddon, as if Christ the King needs Donald Trump’s bumbling foreign policy gaffes to allow his return.
Newsflash for Trump, his Cabinet, and his cult members: Jesus isn’t looking for Trump’s permission to do what God has already planned. No man knows the day or hour of the return, so it won’t be forced by human will.
It’s alarming that our government has been taken over by such uninformed, uneducated, unqualified and hateful individuals. Their rise was made possible by the ignorance of likewise uninformed and hateful voters. It will be to our ruin.
Sadly, many feel their hate is faith-sanctioned. Their discernment is lacking. Jesus never meant that his kingdom be built through government compulsion. His desire was for servant hearts and faithful disciples, who would go into the world and spread the Gospel of Love, not military wrath. Love, kindness, a helping hand, a shoulder in times of despair, and godly patience is what builds a kingdom for God’s glory. Draw others by mirroring Christ. Your vote is not the equivalent of doing God’s work. It’s a lazy faith that looks to have the government enforce your values.
Trump, Hegseth, and the rest of this abominable administration will continue to do harm in the world, for as long as they have the power. The midterms are coming. Vote accordingly.
