That’s a good, evenhanded take. I think there’s lots of evidence of closeted racism still bubbling near the surface. I suspect this will bring some of it into the open. Maybe on this very comment section.

I was in Birmingham as a child. Mom took us to march until the Panthers showed up with guns. We canvassed for Brewer over Wallace.

The country now is unrecognizable to my eyes.

An entire generation changed it, only to end up seeing their children labeled racist because they’re white.

You’re young. Go fix it. Again.

The question is now beyond legality, because it has been decided by the Supreme Court. I'm sorry you have one more reason to whine about being black, but perhaps you should take up bowling or find a constructive hobby instead of complaining about matters that were settled over a century ago. It amuses black Africans how much American black people kvetch about racism instead of being grateful that their ancestors were American slaves and that they are therefore Americans with American freedom and opportunity. Get over it, move on, do something. useful with your life.

It seems to me that there’s room for being proud and grateful to be an American while also being critical of and opposing factors that curtail the rights of Americans. There’s not only room for that, it should be our default position.

America is great but can be better.

A good place to start making America better is to stop talking about everybody's race. That was the idea behind race-blind laws. You are probably too young to remember a time when we all aspired to a race-blind society. As someone old enough to remember him when he was on this earth, I heard Dr. King call upon us to judge a man "not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character." This principle and what you and many like you persist in bringing up are not consistent. You are obviously a bright and well-spoken man, so why do you (and others like you) need special assistance, or affirmative action, to have a happy and productive life? The important divisions in America today do not concern race but class and economic condition -- the concentration of wealth is worse than any time I remember. And both parties are too corrupt and ingrained to address it, and globalism has made it worse.

If only people would harken to King’s dream!

As you point out, the die is struck. Discrimination in reality pisses off the victims. Now you’ve got a bunch of angry Asians, whites and mostly men. Worse, we have extreme left and right who literally call for murder.

I thought it was all over in 2008. It was just beginning - a pissed off slick talking activist made it so.

Best guess in 50 years the south leaves. Again.
