In my opinion what Trump did was orders of magnitude worse than what Nixon did. The most important issue is making sure he can't run again in 2024, but even without that issue a pardon would be a bad idea. Just as Mueller's report allowed Trump and his supporters to believe he was exonerated, a pardon would just shore up his arguments that he did nothing wrong.

Agree completely. Now isn't the time to pardon Trump. I still hope the Senate convicts and disqualifies him, so we don't have to worry about a 2024 run from him. Best move for conservatism for the long haul.

I also agree. I'm sure the Republican party will continue with its nearsighted support of Trump by continuing to spout the "Big Lie" and court the massive amount of his deluded base. In the long run however, they will need to burn that path to Trump that will allow any resurrection of Trumpism in 2024. If not, they risk running a starkly divided party for decades to come, whether it be Trump, or another member of his family. If anything, the Republicans should have learned that the Trump brand is now toxic to their future. Whether they are smart enough to figure that out remains to be seen. I for one am done with the party regardless of their decision. Shortly after the election in 2016 constitutional conservatives were given the bum's rush out the front door and unceremoniously thrown in the street, never invited to return. My Representative and Senator both continue to support the Big Lie and until that ends, no "healing" is possible.

Number 1 the idea that the party who introduced articles of impeachment on day one of a person's presidency can ever be appeased is fiction. There is no unity with this version of the republican party. In fact, they have already taken that olive branch and turned it into a talking point. Expecting Biden to do what they want because "unity". So I don't really see any positive at all from doing it. And it would not only ruin Biden but probably Harris as well. Democrats would lose their collective minds.
