This is a special post by an anonymous author. The author is a Facebook friend who posted this in a private group as a response to a friend’s political post, which he ultimately decided not to publish. Sometimes scrolling past a post is the best strategy. This is something I have had a hard time learning, but it is biblical. Proverbs 9:8 tells us, “Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you." That’s as true in the internet age as it was 3,000 years ago. Nevertheless, I thought his response deserved a wider audience and he did give us permission to post it here. -DWT
I see no greater single source of intentional division than the GOP at the moment deciding that they will play identity politics too. Vance said in 2021 that the GOP was right because they “hate the right people.” It was (and remains) a seriously un-Christian thing to say
I’m pro-Jesus first and there is plenty in the GOP strategy NOT backing Jesus’s Agape love and grace and commitment to avoid false witness:
-Hatred of sinners.
-Let’s throw out the foreigners in our country and say some untrue and hurtful things about them to gain power.
-Let us forward obviously untrue things about FEMA and other agencies.
-Let us attempt to enforce morality through government power instead of appealing to folks with the Gospel as instructed
“He [Trump] fights” instead of “we turn the other cheek and advocate for what is right as instructed by the One who says the victory is His and in Whom we trust.”
MAGA is not a Christian movement, it is an anti-Christian one. We can’t have anything that looks like unity when you have a commitment to “not ideas, only this guy” and that guy is committed to unchristian things as a strategy. If you advocate for unchristian things within the church context, you will get disunity there too
I am a Christian first and won’t violate those principles regardless of whatever worldly outcome I might foresee, understanding that His ways are above mine, He is sovereign, and He won’t violate His Word
I believe that leaves the faithful Christian with no one for whom to advocate, therefore I don’t. I don’t advocate anti-Christian attitudes to try to outsmart Satan when the Author has told me to flee from sin.
I’m fleeing. For some reason, that obedience is a problem for folks whom I was pretty sure had committed to those same principles.
I don’t disagree that the other side started it. I also understand that God has finished the fight you want to have and tells us how to do the same. It isn’t this. In fact, it is the OPPOSITE of this. And THAT is why I am no longer a Republican.
I’d much rather be thought a RINO than a Christian in church membership and attendance only. I’m no longer a Republican in name either. I remain a seriously committed conservative Christian.
People are having to find out in real-time if they believe the Bible and the things it says when it actually costs you in the world… and I believe many are failing the test.

Fascinating read; which caused me a reflection on my own beliefs.
Born Catholic. Recovered from it. Sobered up 48 years ago, found a higher power. Not sure what or who it is; i simply believe in the concept of right/wrong, good/evil.
I have no interest in judging others actions. I'll let that higher power/God (for the believers) take care of that. In the meantime i know evil when i see it/hear it. trump is evil.
May God help us all should he win.
I applaud your friend for their commitment to their core principles. I see all these other “Christians” who support Trump, and it makes me laugh. Of course, if he wins Tuesday, that will be no laughing matter at all.
