If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

Families of victims forgiving Dylann Roof is a miracle. It is not something I could do.

Excellent Steve, my life has no meaning without my faith. My mom went home 3 years ago this month. She gave all 6 of her children the best examples of faith and led each of us to Christ. Shortly after her funeral I was talking with my then 6 year old granddaughter and her words will stick with me forever. She said Nana doesn’t need faith anymore, she is looking at Jesus. So my mom and I have done a good job with explaining faith to her as well. If only the world had the faith of a child. What a different place this would be.

But here’s the thing: it remains only a hypothesis. Yes, if and when Christ returns would serve as proof of the whole enterprise…but it hasn’t happened yet…and may never happen. As such, treating it today as though it were real is purely an article of faith since you would be accepting the hypothesis (and rejecting the null) absent proof. That’s not how you establish scientific fact.

So as of today, “trust in God” in no way resembles “trust in gravity”. One has sufficient evidence that compels you to reject the null (and accept the hypothesis); the other does not.

How is faith a fact of existence? As you say, existence can be observed and quantified. That requires no faith. You fall back onto faith only when you choose to believe stuff that CAN’T be measured and quantified.
