Incompetence creates space for corruption to flourish. This state of affairs is entirely intentional.

"A federal judge on Monday dismissed the criminal indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James after finding the prosecutor who brought the cases, former Trump attorney Lindsey Halligan, was not lawfully appointed."

"U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie said that she agreed with Comey, who moved to dismiss the case on the grounds that Halligan's appointment was illegal"

"'Because Ms. Halligan had no lawful authority to present the indictment, I will grant Mr. Comey’s motion and dismiss the indictment,' Currie wrote in finding that Halligan lacked the authority to present a case to a grand jury."

Incompetence is the default for government agencies as Shipley stated in his latest column.

"The indictment alleges that on May 14, 2021, approximately 6 weeks after she Sheila Chefilus-McCormick declared her intention to run in the special election, her brother sent an Invoice from Trinity Heath Care to FEMA for services performed in connection with the collection of COVID samples for testing. The amount of the invoice was $50,587.00. There is no suggesting in the indictment that the invoice was not legitimate.

On July 1, 2021, FEMA paid the invoice with an electronic funds transfer in the amount of $5,057,850.00 — an overpayment of $5,007,271 as a result of a FEMA accounting error.

FEMA — the gift that keeps on giving."

"There is nothing in the indictment that suggests Cherfilus-McCormick or her brother engineered the receipt of this payment, and I’m confident based on my own experience the investigation took a very hard look at the question of whether it was in any way an “inside job” with someone at FEMA. The indictment calls it a “mistake.” It’s government work. Shit happens. Incompetence is also the default because it is so often correct.

But the problem here is that an aspirant for Congress didn’t pick up the phone, call FEMA and say “I think there has been a mistake.” No — six weeks later she transferred about half the money to another business she owned as if it belonged to her.

But it didn’t end there — NOT BY A LONG SHOT."
