This could be an attempt to intellectualize the uniparty. Except MAGA is not part of the uniparty, which seems obvious but is well pointed out by David.

Harris's policy is available at https://kamalaharris.com/issues/.

RE Medicare For All: I'd still love to get insurance out of the middle of the equation, as they extract money and provide little/no benefit (like car dealerships). I'm open to non-NHS-type systems: Singapore and Germany have different systems that could work well here, and it's worth looking into other systems for what would fit best.

I don’t have a problem with insurance, but I’d like to get employers out of the equation.

Insurance for autos and homes and the like, sure. But medical health insurance/coverage sure seems to get in the way (such as denying cancer treatment because they don't think the cancer is enough of an issue), and moving towards a different system seems like a no-brainer - especially when there are other systems that we can cherry-pick the best aspects and make useful for ourselves.

There's a YouTube playlist at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkfBg8ML-gIngk82SUbTp6Og_KkYfJ6oF that contains some good overviews of various health systems around the world. It's useful at the very least for knowledge on how other countries deal with the issue.

Thanks for the link, SG. I'll definitely watch. I wish the US were better at acknowledging policies/programs of other countries that work well.

One thing I disagree with is a flat minimum wage for all workers. Australia has a tiered wage system For example, junior employees hourly minimum wages

16 yrs and under $8.87

17 yrs $13.93

18 yrs $16.46

19 yrs $19.88

20 yrs $23.95

21 and older $24.10/hr

This makes a lot more sense. One of the arguments against raising our flat minimum wage is that kids don't need to be paid the same. There is a difference between a minimum wage and a living wage. Australia understands that.

There is one play from trump's playbook Harris would be wise to crank up here as we reach the start of the voting season. While in office, trump brought in his business council (or whatever he called it) and made it look like he cared what they said. He didn't, he just wanted the adoration.

It/we would be well served for Harris to make an effort to create a tax council of those heavy hitters like Buffet and Cuban and others who have been outspoken on the inequities of the current tax structure. It's easy for those having it all, screaming how bad it is for them to pay more, but is it realistic for trump to promise millionaires and billionaires tax cuts and reducing the corporate rate to 15%?

The disproportionate distribution of wealth in this country has been driven by tax breaks to those who needed it the least. We all know trump's plan is more of the same. It is simply illogical to continue down that path.

The middle wins elections. Pure and simple. Boggles the mind that both sides are still worrying about playing to their wingnut sections rather than trying to win the median voter.

The wing nuts are the bulk of primary voters.

The Democrats are definitely not playing to the wingnuts.

Do you really think Tucker and JD are Nazi sympathizers who admire Hitler? Do you really think free speech is only for those whose political views you approve of?

Free speech is allowing that nazi sympathizing D-bag to air his moronic ideas. Free speech does not prevent anyone from repudiating them. Tucker and Vance have only done part 1.

Were they asked their opinion or asked to denounce free speech?

Tucker certainly didn’t seem to have challenged that moron very much at all. Far beyond anything that one could write off as simply being a polite or agreeable host.

I did not see the interview. I do not know why anyone would watch unless they had not been paying enough attention to already know Putin's views on world affairs. I believe the interview took place in Moscow, probably in Putin's office. Tucker was in no position to demand accountability. Had he tried, he might still be in Russia after the state police found him in possession of marijuana and photos of Russian military installations.

Mr. Stinespring, What are your thoughts on the words and actions of Tucker and JD that lead to the conclusions from some that they are Nazi sympathizers and that they admire Hitler?

Curtis Stinespring's avatar

I am not aware of any such words and actions. The idiots who are so easily offended that they spend their lives looking for derogatory information and dishonorable motives in every word and deed of those they hate should get a life.

Do you think NBC is promoting communism and Russian goals when they provide Putin with a platform by interviewing him on TV?

Do you think the Biden/Harris/Mayorkas Homeland Security Department are Chinese agents because they allow thousands of Chinese nationals to illegally enter the USA and then lie about it?

"How much time do we need to spend debating if the Earth is flat or round?

If flat-earthers want to go over it again, are the rest of us obligated to spend our limited time and energy on that, or is it fair to say it's been sufficiently adjudicated?"

Same thing re: Nazis and their attacks on Jews/etc....

So: what's the point of Tucker and JD bothering to not act like it's a settled issue?

Curtis Stinespring's avatar

Not something Tucker or JD gave participated in or condoned.

Expand full comment
SGman's avatar

Not something they've condemned, either - and frequently they find themselves sharing stages and their platforms with those that do.

And really - what do we call platforming Nazi sympathizers other than participating? It's giving the Nazis a "legitimate" platform with which to spread their BS. It's not like Tucker is refusing to platform them, or challenging them in any way.

I do not believe you can truthfully say they haven't condemned the holocaust or other attacks on Jews. We share the universe with all types and politicians on the national stage frequently appear with less desirable types. Some even do eulogies for KKK leaders.

SGman's avatar

I'm pretty confident I can, 'cause good luck finding them voicing said condemnations. And it ain't just about Jews, but other ethnicities too - like stating Haitians are eating pets in Springfield IL.

Being invited to an event with "less desirable types" once is one thing: they can at least claim ignorance that said person(s) would be there. It is another thing entire to attend multiple events with said person(s), and to willingly platform them.

I will not be charitable about this, Curtis.

Events with less desirable types are difficult to avoid for politicians on the national stage. RNC and DNC conventions and swing state rallies for instance.

I really do not need charity. Don't hold back.
