Some of the booty dancing was a bit risqué but on the whole it was uplifting. FWIW, here’s what Bad Bunny said directly into the camera as he walked through the “sugar cane” field:

“Mi nombre es Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, y si hoy estoy aquí en el Super Bowl 60, es porque nunca, nunca dejé de creer en mí. Tú también deberías de creer en ti. Vales más de lo que piensas. Confía en mí.”

A direct English translation (consistent across multiple reports) is:

“My name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, and if I’m here today at Super Bowl 60, it’s because I never, ever stopped believing in myself. You should also believe in yourself. You’re worth more than you think. Trust me.”

Relevant from Eric Michael Garcia: "Kid Rock's dad owned multiple car dealerships and he grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. Bad Bunny went from bagging groceries and recording his songs in his room to winning multiple Grammys. Which one is the better encapsulation of hard work and the American Dream?"

One of the better comments I saw on Twitter re the show was how even Spanish speakers can't understand him - from a combination of the Puerto Rican dialect and his being a mumble rapper.

To paraphrase David Byrne, sometimes the lyrics don't matter - they're just there to serve the melody/song as sounds.

There's reports that the TPUSA concert was pre-recorded with a paid audience of ~200 people. It would not surprise me that a large number of the 5m reported viewers were bots aimed at inflating their numbers.

Also: they didn't even get the rights to stream their "concert" on Twitter. So well organized! (/s)

I watched the TPUSA concert. Was working during the game and threw it up to see what cultural products #MAGA had to offset Bad Bunny.

It was some pretty forgettable modern country, a dash of classic Kid Rock, then Kid Rock singing something close to a Gospel tune (which was probably the highlight of the event).

It makes you understand why the Kennedy Center is being taken down when you're going from Sturgill Simpson playing with The Greatful Dead to Lee Greenwood all the time.

Heck, the Puppy Bowl got more viewers (12.8M).

Glad to hear that Kristi Noem didn't send them into hiding.

I was skeptical but ending up enjoying the show. My son called it a telenovela. It told a story. So even if you didn't understand the words you could follow along and see he was representing the land he loves. Trump has never quite figured out that Puerto Rico is part of our country. I doubt he ever will at this point. Love conquers hate every single day. I only wish people could figure that out.

I have to smile David; i see you responded to John below with the one clip i best enjoyed from your well written article: " If your movement is offended by unity and love, marriage and joy, you might want to schedule some time for introspection."

Amen brother, amen!

Just to set the record straight, TPUSA is not all Christian nationalist. In fact, there is kind of an internal war going on within the organization between Christian nationalism, led by the likes of Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens and the traditional Judeo-Christian faction, probably whose primary leader would be Ben Shapiro.

Which side is responsible for endorsements?

I don't see the point in becoming incensed over someone else's taste in musical entertainment. I just watch the Grand Ole Opry on Roku. What other people prefer is their business. Super Bowl means nothing. I gave up on pro sports several years ago and now that category includes college sports. Is high school next? Here in Georgia, all of the powerhouse high schools recruit for miles around.

Anyone wants their music both ways are missing out if they don't check out Tom Russell. Some of his music includes "Who's Gonna Build Your Wall", "The Death of Jimmy Martin" and "Stealing Electricity".

I talk to parents with kids in high school and the level of professionalism (in terms of treating it like a JOB) at that stage blows my mind. Travel teams, camps, etc. Insanity.

And not just in sports. Includes cheerleading, dance and poms.

Peak irony in the graphic. Ive never seen anyone in America more hateful than Democrats referring to Maga.

Hating haters, what a concept.

The excuse of Nazis. Your tribe is the most hateful I’ve ever experienced.

Projecting much?

All MAGA has is resentment and hate.

And you’re different how? You’re the most racist cucks on the planet. I married one of you. Most racist person I’ve ever met

The only person bring up race here is you. Do better buddy.

You could have saved yourself a great deal of time by simply posting that you hate Trump and you hate Trump supporters.
