Trump now celebrates his transgender inclusion agenda, blasts abortion bans, and Lauren Boebert literally personifies the new GOP ethic: grab'em by the gonads.
I was about to post a hopeful comment about Trump's pro-LGBT comments with an aside that it's nice to see him actually concerned about winning actual votes (as opposed to asking a secretary of state to "find" him some), but those comments were from an old interview.
Amen. This Is Why This Unapologetic, Never - Trump Conservative Has Had Nothing To Do With The Trumplican Party Since Donald Trump Came Down The Golden Escalator, In 2015. I Am Still The " Far Right " ( To Hear The Left Tell It ) Christian Constitutional Conservative That I Have, Always, Been. I Haven't, Politically, Changed. Nope, The Republican Party Changed. I Didn't Leave The ( Former ) Conservative Republican Party. The Republican Party LEFT CONSERVATISM AND LEFT ME. In Other Words, The Republican Party Base " Earth " Moved Out From Underneath My Feet. This Is Why I Have Abstained From Voting Republican
( Or Democrat ) Since 2016. I Voted Constitution Party In 2016 And In 2020. Until Trumpism Dies And Reagan / Goldwater Conservatism Returns To The Republican Party, I Will Have Nothing To Do With The Modern Trumplican Party.
Many years ago when I turned 18 years old, I registered with the Democratic party because that was the party my whole entire family, both my father and mother’s side, was aligned with at the time. The one exception was my grandmother who was a registered Republican. She was the one dissenting voice in my otherwise closed bubble and I mostly credit her for instilling in me a sense of civic duty. Over the intervening years, I have always tried to decide my vote on policy versus party thus at one time or another I have voted for democratic, republican, and independent candidates with no doubt my age and the issues of the times influencing my final choice. Since then many things that I have seen and watched unfold in the political arena, have led me to become much more cynical about politics. As far as I am concerned DC is a cesspool with pretty much everyone just swimming in a swap. Our political elites for the most part all seem to me to be nothing but power hungry, self serving, and dishonest.. Where does that leave all the rest of us? I cannot bring myself not to vote, so a choice has to be made and for now the majority of the policies being pushed forward by the democratic party are most definitely out of alignment for me so once again, it seems the choice is to pick from the lesser of the two evils. Unfortunately until we reach a point where the wealthy and powerful are held to account regardless of which party they poison, I don’t ever see it changing. I have an older granddaughter who is of voting age and I try to encourage her to be involved and exercise her civic duty, but these days it is getting harder and harder to bring much enthusiasm into those conversations.
I'm going to have to paraphrase because I do not have a subscription to The Dispatch and cannot find the screenshot from the article.
Nick Catoggio (AKA Allahpundit) recently stated that we Americans used to agree on first order political policy, e.g. being a democracy and respecting the outcome for elections. That allowed us to focus on second order policies like taxes and cultural preferences.
We are now in a state of political discourse where we do not agree on first order political policy, and autocracy is very much being supported by the GOP at large (where it used to be fringe).
Voting based on policy needs to recognize that there's a priority of policies that need be applied, and first *should* be about supporting and protecting our democracy and our ability to decide how our government will be run.
Thank you for the thoughtful feedback. think we can agree on the general concept, but may not necessarily agree on which party at the moment happens to be the biggest danger. I tell you one thing I do know with certainly is that neither party is what they once were. JFK would probably not recognize the Democratic Party today. Let’s see what happens in the primaries, but honestly I am not too optimistic.
The biggest danger is the party that is willing to kill our democracy for their favored second order policies. The leader of the GOP has stated he wants to terminate the Constitution: there is no bigger issue than that.
Hard to argue with that. Trump's a loser. However, democrat leaders simply attack various constitutional rights individually. And it's hard to imagine being more autocratic than those who attempt to use Fed power to suppress free speech, the right to keep and bear arms, to allow violent protest by favored groups while prosecuting peaceful protest by political opponents, refusing to uphold laws for political purposes, denying parents say-so about their children, mandating masks and vaccinations that are useless in most cases, mandating electric vehicles, forcing property owners to spend a small fortune on defending their property rights against the EPA bureaucracy, forcing independent contractors out of business, ignoring public opposition to open borders, forcing taxpayers to pay off deadbeat student debt, etc.
This is exactly what I am talking about Mr. Stinespring. You summarized very nicely several of the issues I have right now with the democratic party. So once again for me anyway it comes down to policy and at least as far as I am aware I have not heard any other GOP candidate other then Trump express a desire to do away with the constitution.
Y'all don't pay anywhere near enough attention to cases re: the first and second amendments to the Constitution: if you did, you'd note how often those rights are upheld by the courts.
You'd also, with some.digging, be able to find all the local/state level prosecutions for riots that occurred during the BLM protests in 2020.
The other items are second order policy preferences. We must place our first order policy ahead of second order policy preferences.

Maybe next time...
Well written and on-point.
Thank you.

Very well said. Concur with your points.
