Great piece, but I'm going to disagree on the Ukraine point. No way Trump doesn't just toss them to the Russian wolves after Zelenskyy failed to come through for him on the Hunter Biden fishing expedition.

I also think that the entire executive branch would be run by Acting heads, rotating out each time the law requires. The executive branch would be in chaos, which would be disasterous to America economically as the country worked to get out of the COVID straits.

Finally got to this piece and was curious to the point of asking these two questions Steve:

1). Had he won...what do you believe the odds were he would have gone full Putin and tried to extend the presidency beyond two terms? Seems to me he touted this idea along the way.

2). Given your "reasoned" choice to vote trump in 2020, where does your reasoning/common sense fall down in 2024? Biden/trump/other?

I always like your comments Bill. As for 1) The 22nd Amendment can’t be overcome. So, no. 2) The fact that Trump was not reelected in 2020, plus the utter failure of our elected representatives to deal with Trump’s attempt to overthrow the election and the government has brought us to a far more perilous place in 2024. Trump would not have my vote in 2024 were he running against a zebra or an orangutan. The question really is: what does the country do if he wins?

Excellent piece on Trump alt universe. I agree it would have been better IF Trump won second term. The economy would have still sunk. Gas prices would have gone up(most intelligent people understand Presidents have zero control of gas prices)and people would see how not smart Trump truly is. The border wall was never finished and border security never achieved.

You are right, we are in a HUGE mess next year unless Trump goes to prison. I'm for that....

Great coulda, woulda, shoulda piece. But we didn’t. Truly I can’t agree he wouldn’t have been a danger had he won 2020. The people around him are the same, full of the exact hatred for everything we are as a nation and they would have spoon fed his ego until he became king. Some of us saw his goal in 2015 as the total destruction of the republican party. In the conservative group I belonged to we knew then as most of us continue to know, DJT is the greatest threat our country has ever faced.

From 2017-2021 Trump had Jim Mattis, Rex Tillerson, Mike Pompeo, Bill Barr and a lot of other competent people around him. Bannon got sacked, as did Flynn. I think if Trump had won in 2020, there'd have been others who would have tried to limit his reach and power. But in 2025, that's all out the window. I may be wrong, but you can't claim that from 2017-2021 nobody tried.

He got rid of so many people! And some left of their own accord. Disagree and you are history. My son and I are remembering the white boards that tracked departures.

If you are positive, and it's not just a hyperbolic hate statement that Trump is the greatest threat our country has ever faced, are you willing to stop him by whatever means necessary? It's a serious question for those of you who do not trust the checks and balances in place. I hear more of this BS every day. Someone is likely to take drastic action if their hatred is sufficiently reinforced.

I don’t hate people. I do however hate actions, especially sin. I couldn’t help but think as I read your comment that the ones taking drastic action because their hate is sufficiently reinforced are Trump supporters. I am not going to kill anyone, but I will continue to stress the danger he presents “on day one”. Read the articles his most ardent supporters and future administration are quoted in. They aren’t shy about saying what he plans.

I do not read much from the Trump fringe. I just think he's a better option than Biden/Harris. I have read some from The Atlantic which pushes the dictatorship narrative more than Trump supporters do. It is all BS. Trump could not even influence his own party to pass his preferred agenda. Most likely another four years of Trump would yield nothing significant which would be better than four more years of open borders, green new deals, adding another hundred thousand employees to the federal payroll and other wasteful programs.

You are free of course to remain a mushroom in denial. Too many people from both onside and outside his campaign are saying the same things about his plans. I hope you remain safe and have a happy holiday.

Mushroom? I ask again. If you really think he will destroy the USA, what are you willing to do to stop it? I do not think you really believe that. You are just reserving your right to complain. You do not need to make rash comments to preserve that right. Five years from now I may not be here but even if Trump is president, you will still be complaining without penalty.

I 100% believe it. He is an authoritarian in waiting. The words come out of his own mouth! I am not “complaining”, I am terrified for my grandchildren. I watch and read everything available, my comments are not made lightly.

All I really have to say is that you reap what you sow and considering everything that was sowed when Trump was president it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that if he wins he would want to do some major house cleaning.
