Thanks for at least acknowledging the attack; Steve thought a sermon on Halloween was more appropriate. I don't know, maybe? I was surprised you didn't mention Twitter in this story. Charlie Sykes on Bulwark was all over the cretins who took to the twitter universe to shit from end of the country to the other about this being a gay pickup gone bad by Paul.
And let's be very clear, i'm not talking about the one-off freaks that populate the site. Nope, this was almost everyone from the best and brightest (said with a smirk) of the republican hierarchy. There is no shame any longer, the only real question is this: how low can you go?
It would behoove you David to do a follow up and highlight the worst of the worst in the twitter universe from this weekend. In normal times there would be outrage, these days there's just likes and retweets.
Steve and I don’t coordinate our topics, but I’m sure he’s appalled by the attack. I subscribe to Jonah Goldberg’s position that failing to address every issue that comes up isn’t necessarily an endorsement.
Unfortunately, your Twitter idea seems like a depressingly long article.
That being said, I do get to see what David is working on and vice versa. I read his article before it published and offered no comments. However I wasn’t about to write on the same topic when he covered it pretty well.
It's not a thought, it's a fact. Nathan Bedford Forrest was the first KKK Grand Wizard, a Democrat. Dixiecrats and democrats in the deep south in the 1920s were the vast majority of the membership of the KKK. Not to mention one Grand Wizard Robert Byrd, a Democrat from West Virginia. Trust me, Democrats were never thought to be right wing anything, always left, and extremist left wingers, such as the KKK, BLM, Antifa(a complete misnomer), are all on the left of the political spectrum. This would also include white supremacists such as the skinheads and others. Extreme right wingers would be anarchists...no government at all.
Some democrats were conservative, but not racist Democrats. I give you Woodrow Wilson, super progressive and racist, around the time of the Kkk's heyday...
The civil rights movement was headed up by Republicans under Dwight David Eisenhower. The Dems fought it tooth and nail until LBJ finally signed it into law, but only to secure the black vote in perpetuity, or so he thought. That pendulum is slowly starting to swing back the conservative way as we speak.
I haven't voted for a democrat in almost two decades. Some are worse than others. Robert Byrd, LBJ and Joe Biden are in a class of their own when it comes to pandering and buying votes. Jimmy Carter is close. Others, like Obama, Schumer and Pelosi, simply reflect what most of their constituents believe.
FYI, here's a transcript item of Depape's Mirandized and recorded statement to SFPD:

I'm pretty sure most people are indifferent to the attack. Just another day in US politics.

The Klu klux Klan is left wing, not right wing.
I think you’re the only one who thinks that.

The KKK was resisting change. That makes them conservative for their era.
Democrat and Republican have nothing to do with. Republicans are no longer a conservative party today either.
There is a difference between resisting change that is a positive change and conserving what is in place.
What is considered "positive" is in the eye of the beholder.
The Republicans used to be progressive (AKA left-wing): now they're not.
The Democrats used to be conservative (AKA right-wing): now they're not.
The South used to be Democrats: now they're Republicans.
The make-up of the parties changed, and the KKK is firmly in the GOP-verse.
That's what happens over time: things change. Especially over ~150 years has passed.
When were Republicans ever left wing?
Republicans used to be the party of big government, while Democrats were opposed.
Both parties have been the parties of big government...
Some democrats were conservative, but not racist Democrats. I give you Woodrow Wilson, super progressive and racist, around the time of the Kkk's heyday...
And we're still over 100 years in the past.
