As opposed to the entitled tool and sex pest Andrew Cuomo?
Israel could have been completely off the table in NYC and it would still have Mayor Mamdani. Cuomo represented the Eric Adams status quo. Mamdani campaigned on (and is governing by) channeling his inner Leslie Knope and SHOWING New Yorkers HOW a local gov't can serve its citizens, instead of using Gracie Mansion to hob-nob with the rich and famous.
While I'm sure "Israel" was a big issue last night in Michigan (AIPAC likely shot themselves in the foot by being such a major presence in this race[1]), it's not the fulcrum on which every American race since 10/7 pivots.
I'm having a hard time imagining the NYC voter who was going to vote for Cuomo, but changed their mind because of Gaza.
You could argue that Mamdani's turnout among new/irregular voters was juiced because of the Gaza issue, BUT on the flip side, everyone understands that as a city mayor, Mamdani isn't going to be making American foreign policy and is an influencer at best.
As much as I hate to do it I have to agree with Steve. At least anywhere there is a big college presence AIPAC will be the primary driving force within the dem primary. I spent the last week in Ann Arbor talking with lots of primary voters and everyone I talked to said that was the main reason they were voting for El-Sayad.
I am interested in seeing how he campaigns in the general and how that message is received here. As well as how he tries and convinces black people to show up and vote for him when they are way more distrusting of the idea that the government could actually help them.
As a side note, I'm happy with how Maine ended up. I didn't think they would actually let their voters decide who to send.
And finally I don't know how other democrats feel but I feel like I am being radicalized in real time with the way this primary has been held. I am tired of being called an antisemite because I don't want American tax dollars to support Israel's current government and the occupation they are actively doing.
There is a moral rot in this country that is becoming all encompassing and has filtered into every segment of our society. Trump has no morals or ethics and has been upfront about that for a very long time. Despite this he has transformed the GOP into an image of his likeness. While accusations of Trump being a Hitler ring hollow, he has welcomed a white supremist faction into the GOP with JD Vance leading it.
The Democrats though openly embrace every deviancy know to man into their folds. They control our education system and media spreading their pet causes into every facet of our society. Similar to the Nazis and the Soviets, the modern day Democratic party openly embrace the antisemites and communists into their midst. How can the Squad and DSA candidates take an oath of office to uphold the constitution when their intent is to tear it all down and rebuild our nation into a Marxist society? How are our courts filled with judges who use the law to shape their and the Dems agendas rather than being impartial arbitrators of the law.
Despite all of this the talking heads say to vote for the D or the R because warts and all, they're better than the other side. There once was talk about the silent majority and how it will rise up to save the country and the world. Well, where are they? The American people have become too much like the German people leading up to WW II. As the Nazis and communists battle for control of the country too many refuse to acknowledge all of the warning signs and blindly accept the moral decay all around them. Like Nazis and Communists, Democrats and Republicans are two heads of the same coin and the Jews are the one who have historically borne the brunt of this evil.

Your comments are very close to the real truth about politics. The political process accomplishes almost nothing of value. It's generally all about re-election to a job that, for most politicians, results in a lucrative retirement after 10 or 12 years. The savviest (and sometimes less principled) ones retire very wealthy.
Presidential politics is an illusion. Very few Presidents accomplish much of real value. I personally support the ones who claim they are trying to do things I like. Sometimes they lie and sometimes the little they do accomplish are results I like.

I somewhat disagree. I think the Gaza issue has united the far left in a way that would not happen absent that divisive issue.
