Just to clarify: an invitation is not accession. Ukraine would have to vote to join, and then all NATO members as well (as we saw with Finland and Sweden).
I would start the process for adding Ukraine to NATO. It would stay incomplete during the war. I expect Putin, as a condition of leaving Ukraine, to have them not join.
Ukraine already offered to not join NATO prior to the 2022 increase in hostilities ('cause this war has really been running since 2014), and that wasn't enough.
The Kremlin wants to control Ukraine and its resources: they still want total capitulation.
