"The IRS, the Justice Department, and the EPA have all been used by Democrats to punish enemies and reward friends."
And used by Republicans in similar ways:
James Comey: "The Justice Department conducted a criminal investigation into whether Mr. Comey had leaked classified information. Federal prosecutors and a special counsel appointed by Mr. Trump’s attorney general examined whether he had mishandled the Clinton and Russia investigations. The I.R.S. conducted a highly unusual and invasive audit into Mr. Comey’s finances."
Andrew G. McCabe: "The Justice Department conducted a criminal investigation into whether Mr. McCabe had lied to the F.B.I. and Justice Department, and Mr. McCabe was investigated over whether he had leaked material to journalists. Federal prosecutors and a special counsel appointed by Mr. Trump’s attorney general examined his handling of the Clinton and Russia investigations. The I.R.S. conducted the same highly unusual and invasive audit on him that it did on Mr. Comey."
Interesting take, Steve. Indeed, it is much harder to “lead up” than to “lead down” the chain of command (aka prescribed authority). This was best seen in the Mattis/Trump relationship. A master class by Mattis, in my opinion, but one that sadly had its limits.
Regardless of who wins, let’s hope for more leaders like Mattis. Would a “critical mass” of that character and fortitude amongst high level subordinates create a positive tipping point? One can only hope.
Well laid out and spot on Steve. Yet here we are within weeks of watching the potential re-election of a man who should never, ever be anywhere near the White House, not even as a visitor.
Yes, something more primitive than policy and substance going on. I am ready to accept the will of the people and move on. The civics classes I studied years ago would have frowned on a character such as Trump.
I assume you refer to Sununu’s endorsement of the Trump ticket. He is clearly not a Trumpist, but is supporting him. If it were me I would shipwreck my political future and not support someone I do not think is fit. I am not going to hold it against those that want to be in the post Trump GOP. That is providing they are not election deniers and that 1/6 was not a proud day. I would consider voting for Sununu down the road.
I see. Well defending Trump ignorant Hitler statements as being “baked in” gets no praise from me, even if it is “baked in” for anyone supporting him. He could have chose a wiser response.
So the candidates in the upcoming election are Harris and Hitler. And yet, we have major new outlets failing to endorse Harris, and a few senators featuring Hitler in some of their campaign ads.
Much of what you say is obviously true, but I have had enough experience with General Officers to be skeptical of their character and leadership. In my experience with seven of them including one British General they were just as likely to be backstabbing, ego driven a**holes. I met only one, my CG in Seattle Army Air Defense Command, that I thought was a leader and a man of integrity.

Go figure.

As this seems relevant: what are your thoughts on Sununu's response?
I assume you refer to Sununu’s endorsement of the Trump ticket. He is clearly not a Trumpist, but is supporting him. I was more referring to his take on Trump's Hitler love, and it not mattering to him.
I see. Well defending Trump ignorant Hitler statements as being “baked in” gets no praise from me, even if it is “baked in” for anyone supporting him. He could have chose a wiser response.

May you live in interesting times.
