Thank you Steve. Jesus laid down his life for us and told us that there is no greater love than to lay down our life for others. Sometimes the only Jesus people ever see is in us. We aren’t perfect but we are forgiven and we are saved to serve. May God be with those who mourn and those who are comforting them.
This flood was not an act of God. It is a well known event that occurs every 100 years or so. We have the science to change how rivers empty and the ability to change the land around them to minimize or even do away with flooding. Same goes with hurricanes and other natural disasters we can accurately predict now and those we don't have the science yet to predict.
Allowing for the excuse of God takes away from that fact that its humans who have chosen to not do what is necessary to protect lives.
Those 200 lives were lost simply because it wasn't cost effective to save them. No other reason.
You’re right. A 100 year flood is a known peril. We also have the ability to choose not to live on flood plains. Everything else is a cost benefit equation. But for those who knew there was a 100 year flood risk, where was God to protect them? It’s still a valid question.
I don't understand how it is. Even if you believe in God all the God believers I've known have believed in free will. God didn't make you live there you did. God gave you the mind to know what you were doing. Maybe that excuse or plea worked 200 years ago but these days it doesn't cut it.
That logic applies everywhere and to everything. It's all a risk reward calculation. Nobody can avoid all risks. Live near the coast, it's hurricanes. Live on the plains, it's tornadoes. Live near a fault, it's earthquakes. Live near Yosemite, it's a possible super volcano. Live near a military base, you're probably targeted for a nuclear strike. Live on a flood plain, you get floods, for which we have flood insurance. Send your kids to camp on a flood plain, you risk a 100 year flood, perhaps a 1% or maybe 3% chance of the lifetime of your kids camping experience. Nobody can live risk free. Nobody by their own free will (worrying) can add one day to their lives. The Bible teaches this explicitly. God is indeed in control of all. What constitutes an excessive risk is easy to figure in hindsight.
Steve, though I understand your attempt here, not sure why you want to take the that tact when G_d is in everything; no matter New Testament or Old Testament, G_d is everything creation. Heroes do always arise; yet preparedness makes us less reliant on those super human humble efforts. Yes there will be time to view the whys and what’s of those who wish to tear everything down and eliminate fema, NWS, and NOAA,,,,,,,and then spew disinformation to justify their actions that will attempt to not deal with government service obligation to Protect its people. Hopefully this and other issues will wake even those who serve in the 2025 mission , that there are lives in the balance, not zero sum games. Compromise and bipartisanship is not a forgotten dream
I may be missing something in your comment, but I do believe the government failed to protect citizens. However, the degree to which this is relevant, and how it connects to administration policies or legislation is not fully understood. I had heard one of the NWS people responsible for notifications left and took early retirement and was not replaced. I don’t know if that one fact is enough to lay blame. I think there’s a fair degree of NIMBY and prohibitive cost for warning systems at the local level also. We need to grapple as a nation with how far we want to push edge cases for warning systems. A biblical view suggests that things will continue to get worse as edge cases become the norm, and then are surpassed by woes.

Not sure what edge cases means but the state certainly was not prepared for this his kind of disaster. There is plenty of blame to go around.
