The dregs (garbage wake) of society have been around a long time and are of every political ilk. Some are just mean. This week I was disillusioned by a story written by Lane Gresham in The Northeast Georgian, a local newspaper. Northeast Georgia is not plantation country and although I knew there were people who owned 4 or 5 slaves who did housework, gardening and tended livestock, I was surprised to learn that a man named Moses Harshaw owned more than 20 slaves and was cruel beyond belief. He would tie a slave to his horse drawn wagon and force him to keep up when he rode into town. When an enslaved girl died, his wife bought a dress for the burial. Moses allegedly forced his wife to have the girl's body exhumed and to return the dress for a refund. I also learned that Georgia law was changed to allow divorce in 1850. Mrs. Harshaw was the first in line. She got the last word and had the words "Died and Gone to Hell" carved on his grave marker.

So much for Northeast Georgians being the salt of the earth even if he was a lawyer. I'm afraid to check my family tree for any connection to Mr. Harshaw.

A day doesn't go by where you or some other bigot calls gay people groomers, child molesters, and worse. Don't pretend like that druggie's outlook isn't shared by the majority of the right. I grew up hearing gay people are sick and dangerous. After all the bible says it clear as day. You can white wash the hate you believe in all you want, but its still hate based on the ramblings of goat herders thousands of years ago. At least you could be honest about it.

Stories like this are the exact reason labels are so worthless. Sadly, we have become accustomed to branding everyone and everything as if there are no differences between the nut jobs and the normal human being. Tragic.

Does Brink really represent conservative Republicans? Will thr rest of America look at Brink and say that's not the Conservative Republicans I know, or will they look at him and say "yeah just another Conservative nutcase. You meet them all the time".
