Wednesday, a group of around 50 French Jewish camp kids, aged 10 to 14, and eight adult counselors, were forced off a Vueling airline flight (VY8166) from Valencia, Spain to Paris. Their 21-year-old supervisor was violently arrested by the Guardia Civil, the Spanish police. The airline and crew claimed the kids were being disruptive, singing Hebrew songs loudly, failing to obey crew commands, and tampering with equipment. Witnesses and evidence show that the children boarded silently, were well-behaved, and the crew wildly overreacted. Is this antisemitism? You bet it is.

The kids are French, citizens of the European Union. They were attending a Club Kineret camp in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, on the south coast of Spain, sponsored by a legally registered French charity called Matana. The purpose of Matana is to provide assistance to French Jewish community families in need, financially, and practically. The organization’s tagline is “Le vrai cadeau c’est donner avec cœur” (“The real gift is giving with heart”).
Vueling’s official statement indicated that the kids were being disruptive and “aggressive” once deboarded from the flight.
But witnesses who were also on the flight contradict the airline’s story. Yeshiva World News reported:
Eyewitnesses and independent passengers supported the teens’ version of events. One passenger, unaffiliated with the group, posted on Instagram: “They boarded the plane normally, without shouting—which is rare in adolescents. I insist that they were behaving well. Nobody on the plane understood what was happening.”
Now, as in all stories of this kind, there’s room for multiple sides, and I’m willing to believe that perhaps some kids were singing, or that some 10 to 14 year olds who just completed a summer camp were rambunctious or distracted. They’re kids. But kicking them all off the plane, calling the Civil Guard, having the leader arrested and stranding the kids in the terminal seems beyond excessive.
The reason I know this is antisemitism is that they are not Israeli kids, they are French kids, yet the people involved in this story are not treating them like French kids. Israel’s Minister of Diaspora posted on X:
The woman who was arrested and beaten is the director of the Kinneret summer camp. Fifty Jewish French children, aged 10 – 15, were singing Hebrew songs on the plane. The @vueling airline crew said that Israel is a terrorist state and forced the children off the aircraft; they are now in Valencia, waiting to return to France. In line with Hamas’s campaign of lies echoed by Al Jazeera, Haaretz, and others, we are seeing numerous severe antisemitic incidents recently; this is one of the most serious.
And if Israel is involved, then the usual suspects, trolls, and antisemites crawl out of their holes and tell us how the Jewish kids—French kids—deserved to be taken off the airplane, and the camp director arrested, because indeed they believe the kids are complicit in what the IDF is doing in Gaza.
Let me paint a tiny picture here. If you live in the Atlanta area, you’ve undoubtedly heard commercials or seen the billboards for Kars4Kids. Their jingle is an earworm. That organization uses the donated cars to fund summer camp programs for Jewish families in need, mostly in the New York and New Jersey area. Imagine if a group of kids returning from a camp was removed from a Delta flight and the camp director arrested. This is exactly what happened in Spain to the French Jewish kids.
It is, in fact, an outrage.
Jews around the world should be concerned, especially in light of the fact that France just decided to recognize Palestine as a state, the first G7 nation to do so. Who is France recognizing? Hamas?
Hamas is not, in any way, a partner for peace or a good faith negotiator for the people it represents. Hamas is an organization with one purpose: the destruction of Israel and worldwide genocide against Jews. It in fact has genocide in its founding charter. Israel is accused of genocide because Palestinians are dying in Gaza, but there’s two million Palestinians in Gaza, and Israel has the capability to actually commit genocide were that its policy.
It’s been 20 years since Israel, unilaterally, exited Gaza, with the IDF forcibly removing Jewish residents from their homes. The graves of Jews were dug up and the bones of the interred were moved out of Gaza. Farms, factories, greenhouses, and homes were left intact and given to the Palestinians in Gaza. Gaza once supplied flowers to Europe, and that entire industry was gifted to Palestinians. Then those same Palestinians elected Hamas to be their government. All money coming in was heavily taxed (stolen) by Hamas to fund their tunnels and rockets. Israel responded by limiting the cash flow and not allowing Hamas to launder money then used to attack Israel.
Instead of an economic engine, Hamas turned Gaza into a suffering cauldron of hate. The homes formerly occupied by Jews were burned. The farms were dug under. And Israel was blamed for the failure of the flower industry. Hamas never had peace as its goal, and still doesn’t. It’s no wonder that Israelis today, tired of repeatedly attempting to co-govern in a so-called two-state solution with a group that only wants a one-state solution—Jew free—are cynical and willing to entertain implausible plans for depopulation or removal of the Palestinians who live in Gaza.
The tunnels themselves and the enormous stashes of food, rockets, guns, ammunition, and equipment meant to attack Israel and outlast any siege should be proof enough of Hamas’ intent. It’s been 657 days since October 7, 2023, and Israel has still not found and destroyed all the tunnels, despite having nearly unfettered freedom of movement on the ground and in the air over Gaza.
Now Hamas’ strategy is simple. They wanted control of all goods, food, and items coming in to the strip. They wanted this, and still want it, because they heavily tax those items to replenish their now-depleted siege stocks so they can quickly rebuild their army and resume attacks on Israel. They want to control the Rafah crossing into Egypt, because the tunnels are used for smuggling weapons, tunnel building materials, and other items used to attack Israel. The Egyptian army is complicit in this smuggling, and Hamas used to levy a 20 percent smuggling tax.
Hamas has plenty of money. Most of it is managed by Qatar, which has a sovereign wealth fund worth north of $500 billion, run by the Qatar Investment Authority. The Qatari royal family supports Hamas. Money is no problem. Laundering the money is slightly harder. Buying arms is no problem. Getting the arms into Gaza is slightly harder. But the IDF sitting in Gaza makes that very difficult. The IDF importing and distributing food makes getting weapons and money into Gaza very difficult.
So Hamas’ strategy is to disrupt Israel’s ability to move and distribute food into Gaza. The U.N. has plenty of food for Gaza, but it won’t let Israel distribute that food. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee posted photos of U.N. food stocks on X.
Here are photos of UN trucks & enough food to feed all of Gaza but it sits rotting! UN is a tool of Hamas! US based GHF is actually delivering food FOR FREE and SAFELY. UN food is either looted by Hamas or rots in the sun! Photos from yesterday.
Hamas disrupts Israeli food distribution and then claims Palestinians are starving. They are indeed starving, because Hamas wants them to starve, in order to build outrage in the world against Israel. Hamas wants control of the food distribution, and the U.N. is subservient to Hamas. This is why Israel banned doing business with UNWRA. U.N. facilities were used to store Hamas weapons, hide tunnel entrances, and fire rockets into Israel. The Israeli Knesset voted to ban UNWRA, not just the far-right people who support emptying Gaza of Palestinians. All Israelis (even the Arabs in Israel) know the U.N. is anti-Israel, and that UNWRA is the embodiment of that policy.
Hamas does not want Israel, or the United States, distributing aid in Gaza, because Hamas cannot tax or loot that aid to rebuild its siege stocks. So they arrange attacks and disruptions, and force the IDF to protect itself, and those getting food. Hamas does not care if innocent civilians die, because to Hamas, all Palestinians are combatants, just like all Israelis (including babies and young girls) are valid targets for their violence.
So by starving Palestinians in Gaza, Hamas has a new lifeline, and in Paris, they’ve taken the bit into their mouths, and Globalized the Intifada. The New York Times reported:
“Today the most urgent thing is that the war in Gaza cease and the civilian population be helped,” Mr. Macron said. His statement came as anger mounted across the world over the continued Israeli military operation in Gaza and growing starvation there.
In Spain, fifty French Jewish kids were blamed for the starving Palestinians in Gaza. Not even fifty rich, powerful Jewish kids. Fifty kids from families who need assistance from a French Jewish charity were called genocidal and kicked off a flight for being Jewish. They were instructed to remove all evidence of Jewishness by their counselors after being removed from the flight, lest they suffer the same fate as their 21-year-old camp director.
In New York City, a man who supports BDS against Israel is the leading Democrat running for mayor of that city, which contains the largest number of Jews outside Israel. A man who refuses to recant “Globalize the Intifada” may become mayor of New York City.
Hamas is so proud of itself that President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, whose unending efforts to achieve some kind of ceasefire in Gaza, despaired.
[Witkoff] said in a statement that the latest response to an offer of a deal from Hamas’s surviving leadership showed “a lack of desire to reach a cease-fire in Gaza.” He added that “we will now consider alternative options to bring the hostages home and try to create a more stable environment for the people of Gaza,” without specifying what those alternatives might include.
Israel and the U.S. recalled negotiators, but the Israeli negotiating team has not taken the same tone as Witkoff. In Israel, ending the Gaza was is a political football. In Gaza, Hamas uses any opportunity to its advantage. Starving Palestinians is now to Hamas’ advantage. If there is to be a ceasefire, it will hinge on how the IDF deploys and who gets to bring in food.
In the meantime, the pressure will mount on Gazans, who are being denied food because Hamas disrupts the IDF’s food distribution sites. And the pressure will mount on every single Jew in the entire world. When French Jewish kids can’t get on a plane in the E.U, where they are citizens, because they are visibly Jewish, this is something every Jew in the world needs to be concerned about.
We’ve seen over and over again how easily the world turns to Jew-hatred. This is Hamas’ primary weapon, and they are using it to great effect.

I agree with you that this is most definitely antisemitism against these children and anti-semitism is a stain on humanity, but I also think the state of Israel has more to do with globalizing the Intifada than Hamas itself.
This war should not still be ongoing and the fact it is is, along with mass starvation and the massive civilian casualties that have accompanied 2 years of Israeli bombardment is shameful for Israel and does more to create resentment than anything a third-party could say or do.
The “complete” destruction of Hamas was never a viable goal, Israel has already had a complete victory in this theatre and should recognize that.
Tears and prayers.
