I was listening to Dr. Scott Gottlieb just recently, and he was mentioning how with the Delta variant out there in force, that the impact of the pandemic will be regionalized in areas where there is a low percentage of people fully vaxxed. Predictably, most of these areas are deeply red politically. LA County, is obviously erring on the side of caution. I think because LA naturally draws a lot of people, for business, leisure, etc, that it could be unvaxxed coming in from areas of high incidences of infection of the Delta variant, contributing to the spread in LA. If anything, the ones that really need to mask up indoors are the unvaxxed from areas that have a low percentage of vaxxed people. Unfortunately for many of us, it's going to be a bumpy road ahead in gradually moving from the pandemic. The anti-vaxxers are doing a swell job ruining things for those of us who acted responsibly all along.

For a moment there David, when I first read the title of your column, I thought you were referring to Delta Air Lines. I just took a Delta flight today, and was thinking, oh no! What was I missing that I didn't hear about on Delta covidwise? I then read it, and thought, whew, what a relief!
Not that it will happen, but if Donald Trump wanted to be useful, he should stop with this electoral trutherism baloney first. Then he should go on the air, and strongly tell his supporters to unequivocally GO GET vaccinated. He should then debunk and disavow Alex Berenson, Tucker Carlson, and every anti-vax conspiracy hack out there. That is the best thing he can do right now as a former President. At this point, I don't care if he claims and takes all the credit for the Covid-19 vaccines. If taking credit for and bragging about being the sole reason vaccines are possible, means that his reluctant supporters get vaxxed, I'm all for it at this point. It won't bother me.
I know much of this is wishful thinking. But I'll be praying that Trump's heart is softened and that he does the right thing.
I know you have some true blue trump followers (being very kind here) and i would love to hear the logic of not getting vaccinated? Seriously, don't just spout the usual 'freedumb" crap or it's my right to infect others...what the hell is the logic in not stopping this thing dead in its tracks?
More importantly, i know the great unwashed who are brain-dead and listening to their talking head pastor/minister or the politician who is using it as a fund raising/kiss trump's ass gambit have got them to swallow it hook, line and sinker. So with that too long a sentence out of the way, do these folks sitting on high really believe the crap they are spewing? Is it possible those leading the charge are secretly getting their shots while telling the masses not to?
It is astounding to listen to some of my wife's friends spouting the nonsense it's all a fake. They not only believe it, they take every opportunity to shove it down others throats. I've always tried to keep from letting stupid get in the way of my friendships, but this is one of those cases where i draw the line and say, good riddance. Hate to lose you as a friend but continuing to stay alive takes a priority position.
I don't see many comments here from true blue Trump believers. I am more Trump tolerant but I believe he would be a better President than we have now and certainly his policies would match my ideology better. Your blanket condemnation is way off base. I and my wife had our second vaccine dose on 02/10/2021. I'll bet at least as many democrats as Republicans are vaccine hesitant.
Good on you Curtis, it+ doesn't surprise me you both have gotten your shots. I've said before you seem intelligent on a level different from many trump lovers. Where we part company on your assessment of who got their shot and who hasn't. There's literally hundreds of charts showing vaccination rates by state and far and away "red states" are woefully behind "blue states."
Obviously both red and blue states have large populations of both right and left but the data taken as a whole is pretty simple to digest as who is and who isn't getting their shots. We all want to get back to normal but the latest delta variant and its spread is nothing to take lightly.
Agreed that red states lag. Since I can't label people red or blue I'll stick to democrats and Republicans. Many Republicans are hesitant about vaccinations as are Blacks and Hispanics who vote at least 80% democrat. I'm guessing vaccine hesitancy is about even. I still prefer Trump tolerant to "Trump lover" but suit yourself when applying labels.
Lots of folks are going to be pissed when they discover the state's sovereign immunity, when it comes time to sue for wrongful deaths.
Elections have consequences.
L.A. County has mandated indoor masking again.
