Trump is the gift that Democrat leadership wants to keep giving Republicans. And it is the gift that keeps taking away the ability of Conservatives to be able to focus on issues and policies that matter. Break this tired old routine!

While I'm not surprised at Trump being acquitted for a 2nd time in the Senate, it is no less disappointing, and stings. The Democrats won't say it publicly, but they love having Trump around. And given that a GOP trifecta in 2017 became a Democratic trifecta in just 4 years(not since Herbert Hoover, had the GOP manage to lose complete control at the federal level in just 4 years), they know that will continue to reap the political spoils from Trump still being in the picture politically. And I agree that Trump pulling a Grover Cleveland and getting elected again in 2024, is a long shot, but not impossible. 4 years is an eternity in politics, especially when many in the electorate have short political memories. Democrats are laughing their way to the bank now that Trump has been acquitted again. I really don't know what is going to happen by the time 2024 comes around. But for those of us who believe in intellectually honest constitutional conservatism, today is one of the sorriest episodes in the US Senate.

Sad indeed, from everyone's perspective. You should have called the damned witnesses dems. Of course Mitch had already announced he would acquit so what was the point? Biden might be the only sane one of the bunch...getting on the with the business at hand is far more important than taking out yesterday's garbage.

I have to think Dems wouldn't want to put this country through another Trump campaign. It will be bad enough with whatever loser republican who runs in 2024 trying to be like Trump. And I am really conflicted about the impeachmnt. Americans need aid and they can't wait for a long protracted battle that is already lost.

57-43. The most bipartisan impeachment vote ever.
