Democrats hate everything
The King of Blather returns
On March 4, 1841, after winning a landslide election on a campaign slogan of “Tippecanoe and Tyler, too,” the Whig (precursor of the GOP) gave his speech on a cold, wet Thursday in Washington D.C. As the war hero of Tippecanoe, who defeated the Shawnee leader Tecumseh and beat the British at the Battle of the Thames, Harrison declined an overcoat or gloves while he read his 8,445-word screed. Shortly afterward, he contracted pneumonia and died on April 4.
Harrison truly talked himself to death, and as such has set the bar quite high for Donald Trump, who is trying with all his might to reach it.
Yours truly, December, 2015 “The King of Blather”1
As I watched last night’s SOTU, I was looking for the exit ramp, and it hit about an hour and fifteen minute into the speech. Thankfully, I was able to go to bed after President Trump made non-committal, but tough talk remarks about Iran. At least he mentioned the tens of thousands of its own citizens the regime has recently slaughtered. He didn’t mention his promise to rescue them, but he did say we were prepared to use violence…then I went to bed.
The first time I heard Donald Trump speak in person, I was there with a press credential. That means I could not leave the press pen that the Trump campaign had set up. Their security would not let anyone in the press pen leave it until the speech was over. The only people who could roam were certain photographers. I envied the audience, because they were free to leave, and many headed for the exits by the 45-minute mark of Trump’s nonstop stream of consciousness. This was in 2015. I can say with authority, many things have changed.
The president has gotten much better at staging his events, though he is not as adept at reading the teleprompter as he was 11 years ago. The main point of this SOTU was to shame the Democrats, which happened, over and over.
It reminded me of a scene from the movie “Monsters University” where Billy Crystal’s character, one-eyed Mike Wazowski, tries to stop the cruel frat brothers from selling embarrassing photos of him and his own fraternity “for charity.”
“This guy hates charity!”
Democrats were forced to sit through set-pieces of American pride, the U.S. Olympic ice hockey team, war heroes, victims and parents of victims of violence or accidents caused by illegal immigrants. They were forced to sit stone-faced during emotional scenes while Republicans got up every 15 seconds and applauded, whistled, and shouted “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” This happened over and over again. At times, the Democrats stood, because their own constituents would be offended. Like when Trump praised firefighters. Nobody is going to stay seated for firefighters.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib wore a vulgar pin about ICE during the SOTU, in the House chamber. I think that’s worthy of censure, but Republicans will make hay with it, which is worth more than words on paper amounting to a decorum violation. Rep. Ilhan Omar got into a shouting match with the president, which is exactly what he was going for. The goal was to generate as much video as possible of Democrats hating everything.
They hate tax cuts. They hate law and order. They hate when the stock market soars. That kind of thing. Trump even directly called out Rep. Nancy Pelosi, dealing with congressional insider trading, which he called on Congress to squash. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black: Trump has made more money off the presidency than Bill Clinton, and that’s a high bar. Trump continues to make money every time he goes to Mar-a-Lago, or Bedminster, where he overcharges the government for Secret Service accommodations. Or when Steve Witkoff and his son hawk World Liberty Financial stablecoin to rich gulf sheiks. But Congress should ban stock trading for members, while the executive branch pumps and dumps. Well played.
I read that Trump’s speech was an hour and 47 minutes. It’s the longest speech in modern history (since they started keeping records). Anyway, I’ll leave you with Robert Shaw’s monologue about the U.S.S. Indianapolis from the movie “Jaws.”
So, eleven hundred men went into the water. 316 men come out, and the sharks took the rest, June the 29th, 1945.
Anyway, we delivered the bomb.
Indian PM Narendra Modi is visiting Jerusalem today and tomorrow. The U.S. would likely not attack Iran while the leader of India is in Israel. The consensus of many online people and reporters familiar with the region is the U.S. will attack Monday night.
Monday night is the start of the Jewish holiday Purim, which commemorates the time in the Persian Empire when Haman’s plot to exterminate the Jews is turned on its head when King Ahasuerus, entreated by the beautiful Queen Esther, allows the Jews to defend themselves. No date could be more fitting for the removal of the Iranian regime oppressing that wonderful and ancient nation.
But remember, the ayatollahs get a vote. If they think they’re approaching “use it or lose it” territory, watch for some desperate moves. I think even if President Trump wants to avoid a war, we’re going to get one.
Anyway, Trump spoke for an eternity, generated endless memes and video of stone-faced Democrats hating everything, and said essentially nothing. Watching the ice hockey team in the gallery (right where I sat when I was in the chamber last year) was worth tuning in. The rest was blather.

Sadly, this was posted to my personal blog which is no longer in operation. I might post the whole thing as an archive of when I was a better writer.

The old Tippecanoe and Tyler Too slogan. Guess we can update that one to TrumpU and hillbilly too.
I watched the whole speech and yes, Trump has perfected the art of Democrat shaming, which they rightly deserve. Since they are fighting for open borders, retention of vile illegal criminals, hate America indoctrination, continued mutilation of children and the end of parental rights, etc., they are shameful traitors. You say Trump said a little but he said a lot. I’m surprised he could summarize all the accomplishments of his campaign promises in just one year while Democrats’ lack of class and decency was on full display.
