“…the party typically opposes federal mandates that don’t involve prohibitions on kneeling during the National Anthem or forcing social media companies to give them a platform.”
Great line that sums up the hypocrisy of a lot of the Right, at this juncture.
I don't think the right is any more hypocritical than the left. The people I know just lose interest in an enterprise that sanctions kneeling for the anthem. They do not ask for mandates. Social media enjoys protection because they claim to be platforms. If they control the content beyond reasonable bounds, they are publishers and that has some different legal implications.
I have to agree with Curtis here. David is conflating “the right” with the Very Online loudmouths who don’t represent the entire conservative movement. The dig was a bit gratuitous. Most conservatives can be reasonable and oppose pretty much all mandates when they interfere with liberty. It was okay to do masks at the start of the pandemic. But masking 3 year olds essentially forever is just too far. Instead of educating and winning trust of vaccine refuseniks, they want to take away livelihoods as a threat.
I wish everyone not at risk for harmful side effects would get the vaccine. I have and will get the booster when available. But, it is not hypocritical to have legitimate concerns about new technology - especially those who have been infected.
