You may be correct. It might cause the democrats to lose some style points but it's too close to risk them being able to bribe a few Senators of both parties. Once it comes to a vote, all it takes is 51-49 or 51-50. I prefer the sure kill rather than relying on Nancy and her gang to screw things up.

It seems wrong that some votes require 60 votes, while others are 50+VP. There's also something to be said about requiring 41 nay votes for a successful filibuster, instead of 60 yea votes to proceed. Right now, a vote could be 59-1 and the bill would still be dead. I'd prefer if either party had to make a real stand on an issue to successfully filibuster.
