Look, I’m no fan of Pelosi, but in this case she played the game masterfully. She knew that Republicans would oppose any bipartisan commission, but proposed it anyway so that she now gets to have her partisan, Benghazi-style investigation that can be drawn out through the 2022 elections.

Good point. But, democrats, being the party in charge, can drag it out as long as they are in the majority and can slant the results any way they like. Republicans are limited to a minority statement that will never get wide distribution. No one will read the report except to cherry pick excerpts to bash the minority party. Any congressional report serves only the majority party.

You know, it's at least possible that Cheney will keep her seat even if she gets successfully primaried - by running as a Democrat. I can see Pelosi just telling her. "Look, you don't have to like it, but this way you can potentially continue to serve your constituents instead of leaving them to the mercy and lack of common sense of this Taylor-Greene-style Trump-humping nutball."
