“I’m guessing that a lot of people are engaging in similar calculations as Election Day approaches.” Unfortunately, I’m guessing “not a lot” at least our age. I think people react more reflexively and less thoughtfully out of fear and identity and myth. People are affected by events.

Also, the multiple prosecutions are definitely a sign Trump broke laws. The most important to me is Fulton County. It’s hard to prove it’s not political, and very easy to say it is. Why didn’t the (Republican) Georgia Attorney General empanel the special grand jury? Why Willis? Why anyone? In NY, the kinds of prosecutions thrown at Trump could apply to many real estate developers who run much larger operations. The goal is clearly “stop Trump.” Trump brought the classified misuse upon himself, but did it (I believe) on purpose. He relishes the charges and plans to beat them. He is delusional on that--but I don’t put all my eggs in that basket either. Trump claims it’s politics and if he wins it will justify (to his fans) every abuse of power he plans to commit.

I too prefer less drama and a President who is not Trump, but Joe Biden / Kamala Harris and a democrat congress is not an alternative I would vote for.

Bush / Gore Florida 2000 victory margin - 537 votes. And you propose to cure the ills of the nation by sabotaging a second Trump Presidency to the best of your ability by voting democrat in congressional elections. What do you most fear and hate about Trump? What policies did he actually implement that did irreparable harm? We are no better off now than we were three years ago except for diminishment of the national Covid panic. Judging by recent polls, many voters think we are worse off
