"Sometimes doing the right thing for the country means forsaking the party. Unfortunately, I don’t see many Republicans who are patriotic enough to put their country above their careers and their party."

Is it even proper to call the GOP a "party" anymore? I mean, it's one on paper, but there is no longer anything resembling a coherent platform - just taking whatever Trump feels that day and pretending that they were behind it all along? It's definitely more of a fan club or a charismatic cult than a coherent political association coordinating to advance a set or policy principles.

I bring this up, because it make me question what is even left to salvage that is still contained WITHIN the GOP, as opposed to having all one needs to start rebuilding a conservative political party completely independent of the personality cult.

Can we once and for all stop calling the Grand Old Party the GOP. There's simply no resemblance to the Reagan/Bush republicans; not in platform or policies. And most assuredly, not in temperament. Lord knows, trump was a democrat long before he saw an opportunity to sweep through those longing for the politics of hatred and grievance.

I said it the other day on the Bulwark and i will repeat it here; change the name. Call them trumplicans or magakins or anything that fits the narrative they embrace. We know this for certain...it's not the "Grand Old Party."

Give trump his due and name the party of followers after him. He'll eat it up. Feeding his ego is at the top of the platform list so just be proud of who and what you have become. Well, amost at the top, first is to pay all his legal bills. Now that they've (the RNC) has killed the proposal not to pay his bills, we know how this will play out don't we?
