Trump can pardon whoever he wants at this point. I just want this nightmare to end and until it does, he will not occupy my thoughts for one second. Those who forced America to endure this though are a different story.

The president pardon is a stupid idea designed to invite corruption and a confession that American justice can be bought and sold.

Quit the trolling.

I'm not trolling, its a genuine opinion. If someone even can to ask the question

"... can a president pardon someone and then get a cash payment after the fact as a "donation?"

then something is wrong.

I noticed you failed to mention the 4 Blackwater guys who killed innocent citizens in Iraq David. The political favors/payback is what it is, murder is a whole other planet. I know there is a debate regarding what happened that day. Rather than question what is right or just, i guess i will simply hold my nose for the next 30 days and hope we survive; literally.

I suspect the stupid we are seeing on a daily basis will only increase. The pardons will get more bizarre and the antics more extreme. Yesterday was just the beginning of the end for trump. You know how much he relishes/craves attention and the best thing all of us can do is to simply ignore his nonsense.

Imagine life where he isn't front and center of our lives. Soon, very, very soon. What an awesome Christmas present for us all.

That was me, not David. The Blackwater case is actually pretty typical of what presidents tend to pardon. Every president has had to deal with potential war crimes or crimes committed in the national service. We might disagree with the outcome (like Obama pardoning Chelsea Manning) but in itself it’s not unusual.

My apologies Steve, i knew it was you, just responded several times and got sloppy. In that we are kicking this around, is there anyone he could (and probably will pardon) who you would see as problematic? I'm sure you know the bulk of the criticism is with the fact it appears he is bailing out folks who refused to "rat him out." If you get a chance, check out Tim Miller's comments on The Resurgent this morning. Love to hear your thoughts.

One other question; can a president pardon someone and then get a cash payment after the fact as a "donation?"

I think Trump’s pardons are problematic. Just not as troubling as I originally thought. If he pardoned Edward Snowden or anyone convicted of espionage, or for example El Chapo, that would be extremely problematic. But there’s nothing we could do about it. Federal pardons are a plenary power of the president.

Selling pardons might violate the emoluments clause. But once he’s out of office what could you do? Try him in violation of some federal law and put him in jail I suppose. It would be a first.
