Reminds me of the time I spent at Fort Devens. Although I spent a lot of time out west in the Army, I had never been to New England. I did spend three months in New Jersey when l was seventeen. That gave me my first glimpse of the ocean and I spent a lot of time in NYC. But my days in Massachusetts were enlightening. I found that I could tour most of New England in a day or two if I did not go too far into Maine. I had to visit Lexington, Concord. Bunker Hill. Salem, Plymouth Rock and go to a Boston Pops concert. Skitch Henderson was the guest conductor. The area was so different than the Northeast Georgia mountains where I grew up. I found out how new everything in Atlanta was compared to the Northeastern USA.

You definitely got the flavor of New England if you attended The Pops. I attended several summer Boston Pops concerts on the Esplanade, including the bicentennial celebration in 1976. In those days I always thought Pops stood for long time conductor Arthur Fiedler, rather than a shortened version of the word popular. Thank you for sharing your New England experiences.
