This explains why Harris is so happy to favor nuking the filibuster. She's reasonably sure it won't happen. Trump, on the other hand, would cheerfully end it forever, even if it meant making the GOP a rump party for 50 years.

I suspect coming up with topics to write about without being overly repetitious is a challenge. Especially when you factor in trump's shtick hasn't changed in all these years. He has gotten more vile and more vicious, because that's the only way to keep the base entertained and happy.

So, with that out of the way, let me make a humble suggestion for the three of you (David, Steve and Jay) to work on a joint column. As kind of, sort of conservatives, (apologies to Jay for lumping him in with David and Steve) who clearly were (and still are) conservatives but not necessarily GOP/maga-ites this would be interesting (at least to me).

Who is the grand old party these days (not what, who)? It's not an easy task and it requires a good hard look in the mirror. Worse yet, i highly doubt anyone attempting to do this will not like the reflection they see looking back at them.

I could be wrong, but it also could be an interesting dive into the maga-sphere.

"ROSEANNE BARR IS INSANE: Speaking to Tucker Carlson, Roseanne Barr claimed that Democrats “eat babies.” She added, “They are full-on vampires. They love the taste of human flesh and they drink human blood.”

Tucker agreed, “Because you spent your life in the entertainment industry so I think you have some authority on this.”

Says it all doesn't it about the state of the former Grand Old Party, doesn't it? True conservatives should be throwing up in their mouth to have people like this leading their way.

I missed the day when Tucker Carlson and Roseanne Barr (!!) became spokespeople for the GOP. If they are, then I suppose Cornell West or Ta-Nehisi Coates speak for Democrats. I missed that day too.

Honestly, I think you'd find that support for and belief in Tucker still runs very wide and deep within the GOP.

I’m skeptical of support for Roseanne Barr in the GOP. In any case, my thoughts on West and Coates stand as they have deep support in much of the Dem Party. My point is that both parties are whacko.

I don't think West and Coates have much support in the Democratic Party, especially with West running against Democrats. Coates perhaps *had* influence, but does not at this time: nor was he as dominant in terms of media presence or influence as Tucker Carlson is/was.

So basically: a poor comparison.

No Steve, not even close. And, while i much respect your work, you started this conversation and i would like an honest answer. Who is the new republican (GOP) party?

Give me some names i can hang my hat on and look to as the future for conservatives in the country; please. So many of them have quit and walked away. Your governor is an honorable man, is he the future? Is the governor of Ohio the future?

Because from my limited vantage point, the two listed above (Dewine and Kemp) are dead men walking in the maga infested swamp of creepy, weird characters.

You make me smile Steve. You post the quote and then want to pretend they aren't representative of the new maga party. Would you rather i post the comments from trump yesterday where he claimed Biden wouldn't take Kemp's calls (and lied through his teeth)? Or the ignorance pouring forth from vance on a daily basis (eating cats and dogs, indeed)?

Give me a break Steve, who is the new GOP? Tell me which of the cast of clowns in the car we should listen to? Leon Musk and and his daily X feeds of pure bullshit? MGT now begging for aid following Helene? Crazy Laura Loomer as she flies the skies with trump?

Help me out here bro...who are the ones to listen to? The ones to believe are telling us the truth?

I'll wait patiently for an answer and do it with pure JOY in my heart.

thanks you are right, it was David's. It was your response that now has me triggered, looking for an answer all the same.

I am amused at how triggered and defensive some Democrat supporters get when D nuts are trotted out by name but are so quick to claim Tucker Carlson, a Russia-loving anti-Semite, represents the core values of the GOP. C’mon, folks. We all know most people on both sides don’t subscribe to such extreme positions.

As for who does represent the core values of the GOP, I wrote a whole piece about it. The thing is, while Trump is here, everything is distorted and Trump voters won’t publicly discuss what they privately believe.

Post Trump (after this election is in the rear view mirror, provided he isn’t elected), it’s the Brian Kemps, Nikki Haleys, Chris Sununus and the like who will make peace with both wings. Even Ron DeSantis. I think there are people who believe the GOP center can hold or be rebuilt after this election.

So, you think bad entertainment hyperbole is a serious policy statement.

I think it's indicative of what is in the heads of a lot of GOP voters.

I suppose you mean that figuratively instead of literally. There is a lot of bad-mouthing candidates as being evil. Some haters have become so incensed that they have attempted assassination. Wait a minute. Those weren't GOP voters.
