I think you underestimate how much of the base is currently just as crazy as the elected ones. Or if they are not personally crazy, they clearly love their leadership's crazy.

The thing that gets me about MTG/DJT/others framing of immigration is that X country is sending people as some sort of governmental policy/action, and it has nothing to do with the immigrants' individual agency.
