Seeing as no one wants to touch this with a sharp or a dull stick, why don't i piss you off with my thoughts. How about we roll back the clock to June 3, 1919? Maybe keep the little women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen where they belong. Or perhaps, we can reinstall that 3/5ths percentage for Black American's so they won't have such an impact on our elections.

I suspect now that i have your attention (and i also suspect you are ready to launch into a tirade) let me bring the discussion back to a more normal level (though not much). As a near to be 74 year old male with prostrate issues, this ruling won't have much affect on me. With that caveat out of the way, let's dig a little deeper.

Born and raised Catholic, the abortion question was always walking the balance beam for me. When it got heated in the 70's and 80's and they started bombing abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood offices, i found myself beginning to take sides, and not with yours.

See, i liked Planned Parenthood offering young women information regarding how to avoid unwanted pregnancies. And to be clear, i'm not talking about an abortion, i'm talking birth control, about the health issues that came with pregnancies and knowing and understanding the problems seemed like proactive and positive solutions well short of the A word.

I used to enjoy a good argument/debate. I learned long ago there were/are at least two sides to every story. I was willing to listen and hopefully learn and grow from them. That is until the "pro life " crowd made it abundantly clear that any effort to stop conception was wrong. That the Planned Parenthood efforts were sinful as well.

Yikes. Now it wasn't about abortion, the real issue was telling people how they should live. Let me be very blunt, their position was; if you are going to screw than you best be ready to get pregnant, have the kid and live the consequences of your actions. What freaking right does anyone have to dictate those terms?

Literally and i mean literally, whose business is it what happens in your bedroom or the backseat of your Chevy? They lost me when they decided they were the morality police. We can debate the point of creation all day long and both sides have an argument. No one has the right to tell others not to wear a condom, use birth control or simply pull out before the explosion (what did we call it as kids? Coitus interruptus).

My apologies for being graphic, but the reality for me is, i find preaching morals is a losing proposition. I have read any number of articles this morning and a couple of things have stood out. First, since Roe v Wade, abortions are well down in number. Apparently helping people understand using birth control was a good thing. Second, there's little doubt this decision will further polarize the country and it will become the "issue" in the next election cycles.

Anyway, love you like a sister, but like all siblings, it's okay to disagree. Hope this helps get a conversation started. I see David did an article too, but i thought you needed a little kick start.
