Kids are not big community spreaders. We know this; it’s science. But schools are retaining the right to override all that, damn the science, and continue lockdowns forever, on their own terms.
I don't have anything useful to contribute other than to say that I'm really sorry you're going through this Kafkaesque nightmare with your child and I'm glad that I'm not a parent and have to worry about this nonsense.
That thread was in January. And he admitted “If we have enough vaccinations delivered to keep the current virus transmission R below 1, then I think we can open schools.” He also admitted his goal is #ZeroCOVID.
I disagree with his premise. Kids do not spread to teachers at a greater rate than teachers getting it anywhere else. And kids will spread anywhere kids gather, in or out of school. Advocating complete quarantine is mentally and physically damaging to kids and to the economy as a whole. Quarantining one kid based on error filled assumptions about reinfection and irrational fear is an issue worth resisting.
There's an important question: are we having enough vaccinations? It seems like things are slowing down, and a non-insignificant portion of the population is hesitant/refuses to get any of the vaccines at this time.
The science of school administration trumps all other science.
I know right?

Interesting thread on some variants that are taking off in the UK (schools are open) and elsewhere at https://mobile.twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1384055231432986628

This may be a solution to the issue: require the parents show they are vaccinated, or the child must continue remote learning.
Protect the vulnerable who wish to be protected and get on with life.
